“Where the hell are those sluts?” came a voice that was descending the stairs. I recognized it as Beau’s and opened my eyes to see Luke’s sleeping features. He looked so peaceful at that moment. Not for long!
“Where are th-” he cut off when he saw us. “What the fuck is this?”
Jay appeared in the doorway beside his older brother and his eyes widened.
“Morning guys,” I smiled up at them. Turning to Luke, I shook him lightly, “Luke, wake up.”
Luke’s eyes slowly peeled open and he smiled when he saw me. “Good morning, Gracie.”
Jay coughed; making his twin’s head snap up and then his cheeks flush a pink.
“What’s up?” Luke asked, trying to recover from his blush.
“You, apparently,” Jay stated, his eyes flickering to his twin’s crotch area.
Luke and me both looked down at his groin and found that Jay was lying.
I quirked an eyebrow at the boys and found them adopting the same expression. Beau had his arms crossed and a curious look on his face.
“So was it up last night, bro?” Beau asked, his voice bitter.
“Why is that any of your business?” I asked, stretching my arms above my head, my shirt lifting slightly to reveal my abdomen. Beau’s eyes glued to this part of my body, any other thought momentarily put aside.
“You’re not denying it,” Jay stated.
“I’m not confirming it,” I retorted. Gosh it was fun to play with these boys.
Luke rolled off the couch and stood up, giving me a very nice view of his toned stomach. Sometimes I really loved the fact that most boys slept without t-shirts on.
“So that’s how you’re gonna play it?” Jay asked as I also rose off of the sofa.
I nodded and walked over to him, extending my legs in a stretch as I walked. As I passed him, I trailed my finger down his chest and smirked. “Yep.”
He couldn’t help but quiver slightly beneath my touch, but he quickly coughed and straightened up.
“Morning shit face,” I said as Summer came down the stairs, Daniel following close behind. He was staring at her ass. Ugh.
“Morning bitch,” she grinned back. It was amazing how she could look so gorgeous with bed hair and pyjamas on. I didn’t exactly blame Daniel for staring.
I shoved my hands through my hair and padded into the kitchen, immediately heading for the bread and toaster. “Toast good for everyone?”
They all nodded and sat around the island on the bar stools.
Once they had all placed their orders for either peanut butter, chocolate spread, jam or butter, and had munched it all down, we slumped in our seats.
“Remember what you guys have to do?” I asked, swallowing the last bite of my toast.
Jay nodded and whipped out his phone. Wait, where the hell had he whipped it out from…? I didn’t think I wanted to know.
He text like mad for a few minutes before looking up and grinning. “Done.”
I nodded approvingly. “So how many people did you invite?”
“Seven people. Six confirmed, one declined,” he replied.
“Should be fun,” Summer said, linking hands with Daniel. Gut clench- again.
“Hey Daniel, can you come help me get the guns?” I asked through gritted teeth. He looked quizzical for a moment and then nodded before following me out of the back door to the garage.
When we were safely inside the garage, I shut the door and turned round to glare at Daniel. “We need to talk.”
His eyes widened and I could swear he cowered slightly. “About what?”
“How can I put this simply…” I trailed off. “Oh yes… If you hurt my best friend, I’m gonna make sure you can never again get a fucking girlfriend. No one will want to date you. No one will want to befriend you. You will be humiliated.” Wow, I surprised myself by how bitter and threatening I sounded. Guess mamma bear came out whenever I got protective over Summer.
Yep, he was definitely cowering. “What makes you think I’d hurt her?”
I narrowed my eyes. “I don’t know. Maybe the fact that my gut clenches whenever I see you touching? Or the fact that you stare at her ass or breasts instead of into her eyes? Take your pick.”
He gulped and then rolled his eyes in attempt to keep his composure. “Where are the guns?”
“Hurt her and they’ll be up your ass,” I stated casually before pointing to the box.
He picked up the box and walked back through the garage door, into the kitchen. I realised then that he hadn’t said he wouldn’t hurt Summer. And now he was twining his fingers with hers, looking innocent.
“They’re already loaded. You guys ready to take down some suckers?” I asked, retrieving a gun from the box and pumping it, one eyebrow quirked.
“Let’s do it, sluts!” Beau said, also grabbing a gun.
I made Daniel lug the box to the park so he couldn’t hold Summer’s hand and skipped all the way, innocently, along with the three Bays brothers. Jay looked particularly gay when he skipped ahead, all the way down their concrete jungle.
“Fag!” Beau shouted after him, slinging his arm around me.
I leaned into him and then squirted him in the face with the water gun before running down the alley giggling.
“I’ll get you for that!” he shouted, wiping the water out of his eyes.
Sticking my tongue out at him, I grabbed Jay’s hand and skipped with him, singing, “Gay, gay, gay skipping!”
Whilst I was singing, Jay just grinned at me and turned our hands so that he could slip his fingers between mine. I stopped singing and stared at him questioningly. In response, he just continued grinning and squeezed my hand.
The scene in the kitchen the previous night came to the forefront of my mind, remembering the almost-kiss. At that moment, I knew that there was no denying the fact that I was attracted to Jay. Shit. I was attracted to Jay!
I gulped and released his hand, then shot water at his face before sprinting to the park. Jay caught up and tackled me to the ground, his gun lying beside us. I rolled us over, picked up his gun, stood, and then pointed both guns at him. “Put your hands up!”
He chuckled and threw his hands up.
“Beat by a girl, huh, Jay?” a boy asked, strolling over to us.
I turned the guns on the stranger. “Name, boy.”
“James,” he chuckled, putting his hands up also. I lowered the guns and surveyed him. Black hair, roundish face, brown eyes, good build, low-riding pants, SnapBack and a cheeky grin.
“Nice to meet you. I’m officer Grace,” I said, holding out my hand and pretending to tuck my guns away.
He laughed and shook my hand. “So you’re the American?”
“One of them. That,” I pointed to Summer, who was cuddling Daniel- bleurgh- and said, “Is the other American, Summer.”
“I see she’s already taken,” he stated, eyeing up the not-exactly-what-I’d-call-love birds.
I fought a sneer and gritted my teeth.
“You don’t like Dan very much, do you?” James asked.
“You catch on quick!” I replied, confirming his assumption. “Come on, I’ll get you a gun.”
