Turning into my bedroom, I walked over to the closet and pulled out his present, then sat on the bed and patted the space next to me. Once he had dropped down beside me, I handed him the large present.
He shook it curiously then tore it open. When he saw it, he smiled smugly. “This is perfect.”
It was a huge water gun with a water capsule four times bigger than all the other’s we owned and twice the shooting distance. I told Beau this, and his smile just got bigger.
“I’m pleased you like it. I have to admit, I wanted it for myself so I could whip your asses in the next water fight.”
“It’s perfect. Thanks, Gracie,” he said, putting the gun down and pulling me into a hug. He gave amazing hugs, so I relaxed into it slightly. But when he began pulling back slightly and stared into my eyes, my insides began to wriggle. I couldn’t make out whether the feeling was butterflies or discomfort.
Just as Beau’s lips began closing the distance between us, a cough came from the doorway.
A girl with black and blue-highlighted hair stood in the doorway, her arms crossed. A stretcher was placed in her left ear and a small hoop earring decorated the top of her right one. She had heavy amounts of eyeliner and her hair was all messed up, matching her ripped-style, black dress.
“Happy Birthday,” the girl said in a silky voice.
“Thanks,” he said. Beau hadn’t moved away much, so I could still feel his fresh breath tickling my face. “Gracie, this is Rogue.”
“Hi Rogue, I’m Grace,” I said awkwardly, edging away from Beau.
“Nice house,” she said simply.
“Thanks.”
“No problem.”
I looked from Beau to Rogue. They definitely had a history.
“I should get back to the party,” I announced, rising from the bed. Beau caught my hand and looked up at me, his eyes pleading. “I’m glad you like your present,” I said, almost apologetically.
He released my hand I edged out of the room, around Rogue and went down the stairs. I was greeted by a swarm of strangers that all instantly turned their heads to me.
I greeted them with a small wave and welcomed them. “Hey guys, I’m Grace and this is Summer. We’re the hostesses. Presents for Beau go on the red table in the kitchen and enjoy the party!”
As soon as I had finished talking, the music began booming through the house and the people filed past me and into the kitchen to drop off presents.
Soon enough, the whole house was buzzing with music and dancing bodies everywhere. I made my way through the crowd and into the lounge. Summer and Daniel were dancing in the middle of the make-do dance floor, their hips swaying together. Next to them was Leon and Ari who were lost in each other and then Hunter, who was kissing some girl up against the wall.
Arms slipped round my waist and pulled me back against the body that accompanied them. I turned round cautiously to find Kai’s face inches from mine.
“Great dress,” he whispered in my ear, only just audible over the music.
I rolled my eyes and wriggled out of his grasp. “Thanks. Enjoy the party!” Hurriedly, I scooted past him and into the kitchen to grab a drink.
Pouring myself a small glass of ‘Golden Flakes Supreme,’ I saw Rogue looming in a corner with someone. I couldn’t quite make out who she was with through the crowd, so knocked back the drink and began creeping forward.
