Chapter 18

"Chelia dive!" Romeo hollered as the ball came zooming towards the ground on their side.

Chelia lunged forwards and barely made contact with the ball's soft rubber, sending it slightly into the air as Meredy set it upwards and Eve bumped it over the net.

The noirnette behind the net reached up to block it but the ball skimmed her finger tips and tooled—landing on their side before the bluenette could save it.

"Point: Fiore!" Toma announced. "That's the break point. We will resume after a sharp fifteen minute break!"

"Good job guys," Wendy panted as she wiggled her toes around in the hot sand of the volleyball court.

"Yeah," Romeo gave them a thumbs up, "it was nicely played!"

"That may be true," Meredy sighed, "but we're still loosing. Stella's leading 13 to 9."

"So?" Chelia smiled cheekily at them, "we can still beat them!"

"They have an extra player than us," Eve pointed out.

"Then our victory will be all the more sweet," Chelia bounced on her toes, imitating a boxer, "and relishing! Ice cream on me if we win!"

"Then cookies on me if we loose!" Romeo piped.

Wendy giggled at her friend's silly antics when she caught a familiar salmon-haired boy waving her over, "I'll be right back, you guys!"

She hopped over and sprang her arms around Natsu, "Hi Nii-Chan!"

"Hey sis," Natsu ruffled her blue hair, Wendy flushing in embarrassment and declared him to be immature.

"Hi there!"

Wendy looked over and saw a girl with blonde hair waving at her. Wendy tilted her head and recognized her as the same lady she'd seen talking to Mest the other day.

"...um? Hello," Wendy inclined her head shyly. "I'm Wendy Marvell. Natsu's—"

"—Step sister," the blonde finished, "Yeah he told me." She held out her hand. "My name is Lucy. Good job out there. Stella's team is tough... I would know since the women's team is against them next."

"Yeah but we're losing," Wendy pouted. "And they have an extra player."

"Doesn't mean you should give up," Natsu have her his signature grin. "Cause Fairy Tail never gives up."

Wendy smiled at him, waving at them both before bounding back over to her team. They all got in position for the final match.

The red head from Stella in the far corner customarily announced the score before serving the ball to Fiore's side.

"Wendy center!" Eve called, moving to make room.

"Got it!" Wendy grunted as she set the ball. "Meredy outside!"

"Mine!" Meredy bumped it to Romeo who spiked it downwards.

"Backup, I got it!" The green head from Stella passed it to the brunette.

"Up and Over!" The brunette cried and hit the ball over just as Eve approached and blocked it while the noirnette did the same.

Double block? Wendy thought incredulously as she set the back upwards. Seriously? Chelia swung her hands backwards and sent the back over. The rally lasted for several rounds until the referee called match point: Stella and Fairy Tail tied.

Wendy took a deep breath, announcing the score as she threw the ball and served. To her dismay, it hit the net.

"Second serve," Toma declared.
