Iker groaned as he woke up, his head was killing him and the annoying beeping noise was starting to get to him; his fingers twitched as he tried to ignore the ache of his injured hand.

Slowly the crash came back to him and the Spaniard opened his eyes as his thoughts turned to Aliona, he licked his lips as he blinked his eyes allowing them to adjust to the light; he frowned as he realised that he was in a hospital.

“Iker,” Carmen said relieved as she realised her son was finally awake; the doctor had said that the Spaniard had been lucky when it came to the crash and had only the gash on his head.

“Madre?” Iker said as he looked around he licked his lips as he tried to work out how he had gotten to hospital, Carmen took her son’s hand making him focus on her; she smiled at him as she looked him over.

“Where is Aliona? Is she okay?” Iker asked concerned, he was in a private room that was more than enough room for two people; he wanted to know why his fiancée wasn’t with him.

Carmen licked her lips sadly as she looked at her son, she wasn’t sure how to tell him about the blonde; Iker blinked as he started to remember the full events of the crash.

“Tell me she’s okay,” the Spaniard begged as he stared at his mother, he felt sick at the thought that something had happened to her; the feeling of not knowing was killing him.

“Carmen, you’re scaring the boy,” José Luis said as he entered the hospital room, he smiled at his son glad that he was awake; he couldn't believe how lucky the footballer had been.

Iker stared at his parents waiting to hear about his fiancée when a doctor walked into the room, he smiled as he realised that Iker was finally awake.

“It’s nice to see you awake Senor Casillas, I’m Dr Marston,” the doctor said as he moved to check Iker over to see if anything was okay; Iker licked his lips as he looked at his parents, he still hadn’t gotten his answers.

“Is Aliona okay?” Iker asked knowing that if his parents wouldn’t tell him, then maybe the doctor would; Dr Marston smiled at the footballer sadly before signalling for Carmen and José Luis to leave the room for a moment. Iker felt sick as he realised that something was very wrong.

“Your fiancée senor Casillas has suffered a placental abruption. It's a condition where the placenta detaches from the uterine wall. In your fiancée’s case the placenta has detached in the middle which has meant that she is losing blood rapidly but we have no way of telling how much because it's concealed,” explained Dr Marston making Iker swallow, it was clear that he hadn’t been unconscious for long but he didn't care as long as Aliona and the baby were okay.

“What does that mean?” Iker asked he had a vague recollection of reading about the condition but couldn't remember much about it; he had been reading a lot of baby books over Aliona’s pregnancy and it worried him now that he couldn't recall anything.

“It means we need to perform an emergency caesarean section immediately or we run the risk of losing them both,” Dr Marston said as he moved to collect some papers from an nurse, who entered the room; Iker felt tears fill his eyes as he tried to figure out what he was going to do.

"I'm going to need you to sign these," said Dr Marston holding out some paper, Iker licked his lips confused as he took them; he didn't know what they were but they looked important.

“They are consent forms. You were registered as Aliona’s next of kin; we need your permission to operate on your fiancée,” Dr Marston said as Iker stared at them.

He had no idea that Aliona had changed her next of kin to him; he licked his lips as he nodded his head as he signed the papers, he hoped that he hadn’t just signed away his fiancée’s life.
