Monday 8th October

My friends and I like to play this game. I think they saw it on Tumblr, and it's kind of turned into a daily thing. I go everyday, in my boring uniform before school starts. We go to our local supermarket and buy the weirdest variety of items and pay for them; apparently I'm the queen at it.

I've also been going to the same checkout each time, to try and make the assistant confused each day. But, today was the day that the assistant had left and changed for a younger model.

I'd picked up a tin of mayonnaise, a cd of whale noises, a single pencil, shoe polish and a pack of men's socks. I chuckled, looking at the basket filled with today's items and walked up to my usual checkout; checkout number three. Normally, there was an old woman, in her late fifties. But today, there was a young guy with blue eyes and a blonde quiff. I began putting the five items on the empty conveyor belt, and saw the guy eyeing my items, his eyebrows furrowed.

"A fan of men's socks, hm?" He chuckled, scanning the packet across the scanner and making it 'beep'. I stifle a giggle, "or are they for your dad?" He continued, as he scanned the jar of mayonnaise, "or maybe a boyfriend? Not going to lie, if I had a girlfriend and she got me socks I'd find it pretty hilarious."

"Um.." I wracked my brain for an answer, before blurting out, "I have big feet."

"Oh, really?" He asked, clearly finding this funny. He scanned the single pencil, looking at it weirdly, "one pencil." He states.

"One pencil." I nod, "that's the actual present I got for my boyfriend. Not the socks."

"A pencil?" He repeats, "well, I guess it's useful and has a purpose." He scans the last item, the whale noises cd, "ah, yes. Whales are relaxing." He laughs and I put it in my school bag. I pay for my shopping and wave goodbye to the new assistant, "have a great day at school with your men's socks and I hope your boyfriend loves his pencil."

"Thank you!" I laugh, walking out of the store.
