Monday 5th November
"Ah, run out of men's socks, have we?" Luke asks as I put the packet down. I laugh, "wait. They're for girls?"
"I don't actually have big feet. Sorry!" I put my hands up in surrender, "plus they have Finding Nemo on them, of course I'm going to buy them."
"What size are your feet then?" His eyebrows furrowed as he clicked on the till computer screen because I'd brought a pink-iced donut from the bakery thing.
"Size four."
"What?" He laughs loudly, "that's tiny! I think I'm a nine at least. So why were you buying men's socks?" Pushing the pink donut down the conveyor belt, he puts his elbows on the counter and leans in, clearly interested.
"Uh-" I stutter, "I actually don't have a reason." I laugh, "I gave them to my dad. Not the lilac ones, obviously."
"Obviously." He mocks, making me laugh, "but did you give them to Jeremy?" He teases.
"No, I wouldn't waste anymore money on him. He already snapped my pencil in half." I laugh, "and those socks were quality cotton."
"And a large packet of popcorn?" He asked, "do you just really like popcorn or is there a reason?"
"You're so nosy." I complain, "but no, I just really like popcorn." He scans a thing of red tulips and put them in a flower bag for me.
"I like tulips." Luke stated, "like some flowers are too overpowering but tulips are nice. Like daisies."
"Tulips are my favourite, which is hence why I bought them." I say, as he scans a tub of glacé cherries, "but I only bought the cherries because we have to make cupcakes at school in catering today. I don't actually like them."
"Bring me a cupcake tomorrow?" Luke asks, smiling widely to try and persuade me, "or else I'll cry."
"If I remember I will, but they'll probably taste disgusting -- I can't cook." I laugh. I mean, I can cook a pot noodle and marmite on toast. But anything harder than that is way beyond my culinary efforts.
"I bet they'll taste amazing." I waved goodbye and walked off to school.
