Bella was a great distraction for Alex. The dark haired girl was thankful that Bella called when she did, but was confused upon hearing what she had to say. When Alex answered the call, it was Bella, only it didn't sound like her Bella. It sounded like a recording.
"I just called to tell you that I'm sorry I haven't been hanging out with you these past couple days. I was with Edward. He had a lot of interesting things to say. And I wish I could tell you what he said, but I don't know. I just need time to sort out my head. I promise we can hang out soon. Bye." Alex heard the phone call end. She knew it wasn't actually Bella speaking because if it was, she would've stuttered a lot more.
Alex didn't really want to know what her parents had to tell her. They seemed distressed and nervous anyways. Alex went upstairs to Catalina's nursery, seeing that Adelaide was playing with her on the floor. The older girl walked into the room and looked down a t that two sisters. She vowed to protect them with her life after what happened to her.
"You haven't talked to me in a while. I was starting to think you didn't love me anymore." Adelaide said quietly as Catalina crawled around. Alex crouched down to Adelaide and sat on the floor next to her. She sat on the heels of her feet and pushed her dark hair behind her ear. She didn't know why her sister was acting this way. Alex had always loved Adelaide.
"Adelaide, I will never stop loving you." Alexandria told the 12 year old girl. Adelaide turned her head away. The younger girl then shivered. Catalina was crawling all around the room as Adelaide turned towards the jacket that her older sister was given. 'Why is everyone so concerned about this jacket?' Alex thought as she watched her sister look at the right pocket.
"You have something in that pocket." Adelaide said. Alex furrowed her eyebrows together as she reached in her pocket. Alexandria jumped a little as she pricked her finger on a thorn. She felt up the pocket to find the petals of a flower, pulling it out. A rose.
Adelaide winced as she held up her hand, seeing as her fingers was pricked too. Catalina started to cry as she felt her finger being pricked too. The baby was all the way across the room and Adelaide was sitting next to her sister. So how had all three sisters gotten pricked on the exact same finger?
Alex threw the flower on the ground, and watched as it quickly died. Alex sucked on the finger that had been pricked since a sliver of blood formed. She got off the ground and went to her baby sister to stop her from crying. Neither Adelaide or Alexandria knew what was happening. "Mom! Dad!" Adelaide yelled as she backed away from the thorn.
The Grier parents came running into the nursery. Alexandria was trying to stop Catalina from crying while Adelaide was backed near the crib. The thorns had withered away and the once vivant red rose had begin to wither with it. Daphne looked in horror at the rose as Matthew wrapped his arms around his daughter Adelaide's little body.
"It's starting." Daphne said to her husband as she picked the dead rose up. The briar was gone and the rose had blackened on the ends.

Alex went to her bedroom, questions boggling her mind. She wanted to know what was happening to her and her sisters and why. Maybe this is what her parents wanted to talk to her about. Maybe she was some sort of freak of nature. Maybe she was insane and had to be sent away to some loony bin. Maybe they found her again.
