In the first five minutes of us being on the beach, I was already bored. Jessica was being chased by Mike, Angela and Lauren were talking bout something, and the other people we came with seemed to have been having a good time on their own. I shrugged, watching as Bella awkwardly stood by the car we came in. I decided to have cigarette, because why the hell not? I had stated smoking when I was fifteen. Cigarettes became a crutch for me whenever I felt depressed. Pretty sure my parents know I smoke, but they haven't said anything.

I pulled out a half empty Marlboro box, sliding my hand in to pick up a cigarette. Bella looked at me slightly confused. "You smoke?" She asked me in disbelief. I forgot. I hadn't smoked around her. "We all go different ways. You're awkward, I smoke." I told her, closing the box and pushing it back into my pocket. "Smoking is bad for you." Bella, watching me with keen eyes. I pulled my lighter from my other pocket, cupping my hand over the flame. Sometimes, when I light a cigarette, I focus more on the flame than the actual cigarette. It's so beautiful to me for some reason. Fire is just as delicate as it is deadly. "Doesn't your dad smoke?" I ask her, flipping the lighter's lid closed. 'He sure as hell looks like it.' I thought, restraining the sentence from exiting my mind.

"No, he drinks beer." Bella defended her father. She was cute in thinking she was going to win this. "Is beer suddenly not bad for people?" I asked her, making her roll her eyes and causing me to laugh. I held my cigarette up to my lips, breathing it in before taking a drag. A small bit of the ash from the bottom fell onto the wet ground. Honestly, I don't know why we even came to the beach. It looked like it had been raining all night. The sky was dreary, the pavement was wet,and the sand was stuck together. But my peers seemed to be having the time of their lives in the water, so I sighed and took another drag from my cigarette.

Bella's attention seemed to drift elsewhere, so I followed her gaze. As a turned my head, I saw three tan skinned boys with dark hair. They looked a bit younger than Bella, but could probably overpower her with their unusual muscular figures.

Bella went up to hug one of the boys, making a few of our peers turn their heads to her. She hugged the boy in the middle, him smiling as he returned the embrace. The three boys had stood at our car, now talking to the fully soaked Jessica and Lauren. The one who Bella hugged eyed my curiously, Bella having to intervene our staring contest.

"Alex, this is Jacob Black. Jake, this is Alex Grier." Bella said with her natural awkward stature. Jacob looked at me and smiled. "Hello, Jacob Black." I said to him with a smirk, making his smile wider. 'He has very...prominent canine teeth.' I thought, inspecting his smile. "Hey." He said back, the sight of his teeth making me shiver. I took a final drag from my cigarette before dropping it on the hard, wet ground and stomping on it.

"Haven't seen you around here in a while, Bells." Jacob told her, leaving against the other side of the car. "I'm here to stay for a while." She responded to him. It was surprising that Jacob was as tan as he was in a town like Forks. It seemed like all of the people were close to becoming as white as clouds. Including Bella, who spends most of her time living with her mother in Arizona.

"Did you talk to Jasper about La Push?" Bella asked, making Jacob turn his head to us slightly. I nodded my head, running a hand through my hair. "Jasper said that they weren't allowed to come. His father wants to spend as much time with his kids as he can or something." I told her, watching as Jacob stifled a laugh. "The Cullens don't come here." One of Jake's friends said, Jacob tried to hide his smile, gesturing Bella and I to walk with him.

"What did your friends mean when they said 'The Cullens don't come here'?" Bella asked him while we were walking down the beach. "I'm really not supposed to say anything." Jake said to Bella. We were on either side of him. "I can keep a secret." Bella told him, making him chuckle. "Spill, kid." I threatened lightheartedly, nudging Jacob's unusually muscular arm. "I don't know exactly. But I've heard the stories."  Jacob told us, making Bella's expression curious."What stories?" Bella asked, stopping her feet in the sand. Jacob and I stopped to stand in front of her, looking at him myself. "The stories about the Cold Ones." Jacob finally said. I didn't even have to look at Bella to sense her confusion. This was going to be a long day, indeed.

Bella was spending the night at my house and would leave Sunday morning. She had already called Charlie to inform him, and she had brought clothes in a bag to change into. The car we drove in to the beach had pulled up in front of my house, the willow tree greeting us with its subtle sway. "Should we come in?" Mike asked. He was probably hoping to see my room, or some other perverted teenage boy shit. "No." I answered shortly, puling my bag along with Bella's out of the car. Bella slid over the leather seating of the car to the door that was closest to the curb, muttering a quick goodbye to our peers. Lauren scowled at my decline to come into my house. Not like I wanted that bitch in my place of residence anyways.

We made it to the  front deck of my big house, me pulling the extra key from a tiny pocket behind the old metal mailbox that rested next to the front door. "I love your house. It's massive." Bella said, pushing a lock of hair from her head. "I'm used to apartment lofts." I mumbled, jamming the key in the lock and jiggling it a bit before the door opened. Inside was my mother, Adelaide, and my baby sister who was wiggling in her playpen. I do wonder what goes on inside of her head at times.

"Hello, Bella. Staying the night?" My mother asked, gesturing towards Bella's overnight bag that I was carrying. "Yes Mrs. Grier." Bella said in her natural and awkward state, fiddling with her fingers. "Please. Call me Daphne." My mother said with a warm smile. "Right..." I started, grabbing Bella's right hand. "Bella and I are going to my room." I told her, pulling Bella with me.

We got to my room, me stomping a bit on the attic door that was on my floor. "I-I can sleep on the floor." Bella told me, rubbing her arms. "Shut up. We are sleeping in my bed." I told her, dropping her bag on my desk chair. "We need to talk. About the Cullens." Bella said, unzipping her jacket and pulling it off, revealing her pale arms.

"Jesus Christ, Bella. Can't we talk about literally anything else?" I asked her with an annoyed tone of voice. She was honestly obsessed with this family. In all fairness, I want to uncover the mysteries of of the Cullens,  but I wasn't obsessed with finding out everything about them.

"No, we can't. Jacob told us the stories about the 'Cold Ones'. Coincidence?" She asked, pretty much freaking out at this point. "Bella, chill. Everyone in Forks is pale and cold." I told her in a joking matter. She didn't laugh. "Alright, say they weren't...from around here. What do you think is going on?" I asked her. She was so hung up on these people that she was going to drive herself insane.

"I don't know. But we are going to find out."
