Alex had to brace herself as Edward drove wildly into the woods. The evening sky had fell upon them, and the path they were driving on was bumpy and unstable. She held onto the handle above her head as the jeep zoomed through the trees, and for a split second, she thought that he might crash into a tree. Bella looked back at her with an equally concerned face, her hands bracing on the dashboard of the car. Edward was determined to get the hell out of there, to say the least. They drove though a large puddle, the car swerved every way possible.
"Listen to me, James is a tracker. The hunt is his obsession. I read his mind." Edward said, angry and worried. "My reaction on the field set him off. I just mad this his most exciting game ever. He's never gonna stop." Edward said hurriedly. He drove like a madman through the wooded area, Alex looking out the window. "What should we do?" Bella asked scared. "We have to kill him. Rip him apart and burn the pieces." The male vampire said. He drove faster, if that was even possible, and swerved the car in a way that made Alex's head hit the window.
"Where are we going?" Bella asked him quickly. "Away from Forks," Edward began as she twisted the wheel again. "We'll get a ferry to Vancouver-" He said before Bella interrupted him. "I have to go home. Now. Take me home!" She said to her boyfriend. Alex kept looking out the window, gripping the pendant as tight as she could. "You can't go home. He's just gonna trace your scent there; it's the first place he'll look." Edward said, glancing at Alex in the rear view again. "My dad is there-" Bella said. "It doesn't matter!" Edward yelled at her. "Yes it does, he could get killed because of me!" She screamed back at him. Edward sighed heavily and briefly.
"Just let me get you out of here first, alright?" Edward said angrily. "It's my dad. We have to go back! We'll figure out a way to lead the tracker away somehow. I don't know, but we have to do something!" Bella yelled at him. Alex looked up at him. "My entire family could be killed." She said with a dead expression. There was a hint of darkness in her eyes, and Bella felt a shiver down her spine looking at her best friend. Edward made a sharp turn which lead into the girls' neighborhood.
When Edward and Bella played their little scene in front of Charlie to let her get away, Alex ran down the street back to her house. She went through the back door and slammed it, locking it behind her and pulling the curtains over the window. Her parents heard the commotion and went downstairs to see what was going on. She ignored them as she ran to the front door, locking it. She put the pendant on the doorknob and tried to make a beeline to her bedroom before being stopped by her parents. Matthew put his hands on her arms to stop her, and her mother inspected her face. There was anger, fright, and confused in her eyes. "Oh, honey-" Her mother began before Alex shoved them both away. "Tell me what's going on. Now." She yelled at them. They looked at each other. Alex could hear shuffling on the stairs, and for a moment she was afraid that it was James. Then she saw her younger sisters when she turned around.
"Tell me why we really had to leave New York. Tell me why so many weird things have been happening since we got here. Tell me why I heard Gran talking to me when I touched the necklace." She said angrily at them. The couple looked at each other again. "Now! We're in danger!" She screamed at them. Daphne looked at her daughter again with a shaky breath. "We're not human-" The older woman began. "At least, not fully." Her husband interjected. Alex took a step back. "What are we, then?" Adelaide asked, holding a wiggly Catalina. Daphne sighed before beckoning her family to follow her to the basement of the house.
Before they went on the road to get to their new home, the Grier parents had made one thing clear to their daughters: do not go into the basement of the new house under any circumstances. When they made their way down, the temperature dropped an increasing amount. It was cold, almost so that you could see your breath. Daphne began to blow into the darkness, and suddenly the room was illuminated with candles. It looked like one of those halloween movies that you watched late at night as a kid. There was candles everywhere, a circle of white chalk and salt. There were five pale red candles around the edges of the circle, forming a crossing star. It reminded her of a satanic star. There are jars of different herbs, different liquids. In the center of the room was a medieval looking stand with a thick and very big book on it. It had a triquetra on the cover.
