A Twist In Time Book:1

Chapter 1

It all started with Kegan and Jaidan our sons so let’s start there. Mikey and I have been married for 6 years now and we both decided we wanted kids. I personally want a girl, but Mikey wants a boy. Our appointment with the orphanage has been scheduled for an hour from now so we have started talking about what kids we want. We figured out we are going to try and get two kids a girl and a boy and we will see where it goes from there.

“Are you excited, babe?” I ask Mikey intertwining our fingers while he drives the car.

“Absolutely, I can’t wait.” Mikey says before kissing my hand.

“Okay, after the next left we should be there.” I tell Mikey looking out the window so I can spot the orphanage. I guess I don’t realize I’m bouncing my leg because he’s now rubbing my thigh and says.

“Andy, don’t worry.” Once we pull into a parking space I get out and wait for Mikey.

“Here goes nothing,” I say grabbing Mikey’s hand and kissing his cheek. Mikey just nods with a small smile plastered to his face. We slowly walk up to the orphanage and I smile watching all the kids play outside. This wasn’t your average, messed up, crappy orphanage. No this was a upbeat, caring, well-organized orphanage with amazing caretakers. It seems the kids here love it and I should know I volunteer here sometimes on my days off and Mikey is still at work. I already have an idea on which child I would like to adopt from being here and watching her interact with the other kids. I open the door and walk inside with Mikey by my side and ring the bell on the desk.

“Hi Andy, you come to volunteer again?” My friend Mark Thomas asked me. I shake my head smiling towards Mikey.

“Not today Mark, Mikey and I are here to adopt.” I say enthusiastically bouncing slightly on my feet. Mikey chuckles and kisses my head while Mark nods with a fond smile.

“So Andy and Mikey what type of child are you looking for?” Mark asks opening the file drawers with all the childrens information.

“Um, well I would like a baby boy, I don’t mind what he looks like.” Mikey says looking down at me smiling. I squeeze his hand and say to Mark after he has the folders for Mikey.

“I would like a girl around the age of three and I already have one in mind.” Mark nods and hands Mikey a couple folders and the same for me.

“Which child do you have in mind Andy?” Mark asks me.

I say “Maya,” and he nods.

“Maya has been asking when you would come back, I think she has formed a real connection with you Andy.” Mark says taking all my folders except Maya’s. I nod and look over the file Mikey has been reading the whole time.

“You like that one, babe?” I ask seeing Mikey nod smiling.

“Ah, Jaidan has been here since he was born he is only a couple months old.” Mark says holding onto Maya and Jaidan’s folder and leading us down to the nursery room. We all quietly enter the room looking at all the little babies. Mikey is beaming looking between all the kids, so I pull out my phone and take a picture of him. I spot Jaidan out of the corner of my eye and he is sleeping peacefully with a dummy and lion stuffie.

Mark asks “Do you both want Jaidan today or get him at a later date?” I then realize Mikey and I didn’t buy anything for either kid.

“Mikey, we didn’t buy anything for the kids.” I say and Mikey looks disappointed.

“We are definitely adopting Jaidan but we need to buy everything first, so in two days could we come back and get him?” Mikey asks Mark.

“Absolutely, I will remove Jaidan’s file and give it to you so you can read over everything.” Mark says handing Mikey the folder.
