*This part is where everything gets real*

It’s been two years since we adopted Maya and Jaidan and today is Maya’s first ever hair cut. Mikey and I decided to let Jaidan stay with Brook and Harvey today while we take Maya to get her hair cut. The boys love Maya and Jaidan and always ask when they can see them again which warms my heart. Maya loves spending time with Rye and Jack especially since they adopted the twins she was friends with at the orphanage. Robin, Elijah, and Maya are the best of friends and they always love playing together. I have started noticing Maya doesn’t play with her toys anymore except for her monkey stuffie, she typically will play with Jaidan’s toys. Maya has also stopped wearing her dresses, skirts, and more girly clothes. When Mikey, Maya, and I got to the hair salon we let Maya go after me because she was scared. “Daddy, does it hurt?” Maya asks me while I was getting my hair cut.

Hoping I can ease her nerves I say “No monkey, not at all.” Mikey smiles at me giving me a ‘thank you’ look because Maya wouldn’t let him put her in the chair.

“Maya, you can pick out what hairstyle you want.” Mikey says handing her a flipbook with all the children’s hairstyles.

“Thank you, it looks great.” I say paying the barber because I really like my hair this time.

“You sure you want that one sweetheart?” I hear Mikey ask from where him and Maya are in the salon. I walk over to see what he was asking about.

“I really want this one Papa!” Maya says excitedly pointing at a boy’s hair cut where the sides were shaved and the top is curly. (View picture above to know what it looks like)

“If that’s what you want monkey, you can get it.” I say standing behind her.

“Thank you, Daddy!” Maya says reaching her hand back so I could hold it.

“Are you okay with this sir?” The children hair stylist asks Mikey.

“Absolutely.” Mikey says smiling and kisses Maya’s head. The stylist nods and starts wetting Maya’s hair. I put the lion guard on my phone and give it to Maya to keep her distracted. Mikey grabs my hand and pulls me to a corner of the room. “Should we be worried about her Andy?” Mikey asks me looking over at Maya.

“I think we need to ask her what she wants, babe.” I say resting my hand on his cheek.

“Do you think she might be trans?” Mikey asks me leaning into my hand.

“I honestly don’t know Mikey, we can’t be sure unless she tells us.” I say before giving him a quick peck on the lips. Mikey nods and we both walk over to Maya seeing how happy she looks. I pull out my phone and record the final product of her haircut while Mikey takes pictures. All of the boys and I thought it would be a good idea to make a family channel that features each of our families so we made one and it has become popular. Looking at Maya I see how much she looks like a boy with the haircut. What she’s wearing adds to that factor she’s wearing jeans, a long sleeve grey shirt, a red hoodie, and tiny black converse sneakers. Mikey and I let her pick her outfits when we go out places because she usually doesn’t want to put on what we give her to wear. “Maya do you want to go home or look around?” I ask picking her up while Mikey gets his haircut.

“Look around daddy, but can we wait for papa?” Maya asks me while playing with my hair. Maya always likes playing with our hair when we just get it cut, I don’t know why though.

“Of course monkey, do you want to talk to Jaidan?” I ask her because she hasn’t seen him all day.

“Yes, please!” Maya says beaming. Maya and Jaidan have had a very strong bond ever since we first adopted them. Jaidan may only be two but he always lights up when he sees Maya. I sit down on a seat near Mikey with Maya on my lap and call Brook.
