The Truth

They walked up to a small hill that had a great view of the town below.  They both sat and stared at the almost sunset. Something was off. Applebuck sighed. He couldn't do this

Applebuck had to do it. He had to tell her the truth. He gazed at the sun. It was almost sunset. It was now or never.

"Rairty?"

"Hush. Don't speak darling." Rarity slowly begin to lean in. She gave a soft smile. "You'll ruin the moment."

This was it. This was what Applebuck wanted in the first place. A kiss. A true loves kiss. That way he'll stay a stallion forever. But something felt wrong.

Applebuck slowly begin to lean in as well. He wanted this. But it just felt wrong. Just as they were about to kiss.
Applebuck pulled away the last second.

"Ah'm sorry, Rarity. Ah can't." He looked away.

"Oh. Do I have bad breath?" Rarity panicked. "I ruined the moment didn't I?"

"What? No. No. Ya were amazing." Applebuck gripped her hooves and looked into her eyes. He sighed deeply. "Rarity. Ah...ah need to tell you something.."

"What is it, darling?"

"Ah....ah..." He had trouble with words. "Ah need to be honest. Ah should've been honest since the beginning. But Rarity. Ah'm...Ah'm not a real stallion."

"Not a real stallion? What do you mean?"

"And my name is not Applebuck..." He held his head down in shame. Slowly he made eye contact with her. His eyes watery. "Its meh..Applejack."

Raritys eyes were wide. But she played as a joke.

"Forgive me darling. For a second there I thought you said Applejack." She laughed nervously.

"Its the truth. It's me Applejack " He avoided her eyes."Rare ah- gah"

A strong hoof hit his cheek. He winced at the pain and held a hoof in place. He gazed back at Rarity who had tears rolling down her cheeks.

"How dare you." She cried out. "How dare you do this to be Applejack. All this time. I thought I was going crazy thinking you were a mare."

"Rare ah"

"Ponies thought i was crazy. Spike thought I was crazy. I knew something was off. I knew you couldn't be a stallion. But I decided to not question it since i saw photos in which you were a stallion. So i decided forget about it. But tell me. Why would you lie to me like this?"

"Rare ah..ah.." Applejack didn't know anymore.  Tears filled up his eyes. "I was in love with you."

Her eyes were wide.

"And ah knew ya wouldn't be with a mare like me. So ah asked zecroa to help me, to help me change and then ah asked Twilight for help. Ah know you wouldn't love meh as a mare."

"You don't know that." Rarity growled. "You don't know if im into mares."

"So yer telling me that..."

"Yes. I do look at a mare every once a while. Although i do pefer a Prince stallion. I could fall in love with a mare as well. "

"Rare...."

Applebuck gazed at the sunset. It was almost time.

"Rarity please. Ah did this for you." He gripped her hoofs and tried to look her in the eye but Rarity didn't want to look. Instead she held her head down. "Rare. If....if ya kiss me right now. Ah can stay a stallion. Ah can be with ya and...and we can be together and we can start a family."

"A family? Is that why you didn't tell me the truth? Is that why you changed yourself and everything?" Her voice became cold. "I can't believe you. Why didn't you tell me? In fact. Why didn't you erase my memories of you being a mare?"

"Ah.. Ah..." Applebuck was loss of words. Why didn't he do that too? "Ah don't know ah just thought..."

"Thought what? That i could fall in love with your mare self? That I'll miss my best friend? My true friend?"
She tried to hold by her tears. "Well. Guess what. I do miss you. I miss my best friend. Just why couldn't you tell me the truth that you loved me?"

"Would ya really be with a mare like meh?"

Rarity gazed at him. "Yes."

"Oh..." Applebuck wanted to punch himself. "Rare. Ah'm sorry. Ah did this for you."

"No. You did it for yourself." Rarity stood up. "I...I must be leaving."

"No. Rare please. Look at me." Applebuck gazed at her. Rarity did as she was told. "Ah'm sorry Ah'm really am. But ah really do love you. And ah wanted what was best for ya. For us. Ah didn't mean to hurt ya. Ah was being selfish and ah understand if ya hate me now."

"No. I can never hate you. You're my best friend."

Rarity leaned in, wrapping her hoofs around his shoulders.

"So...can...can ya kiss me rare? So ah'll stay like this forever. Ah need a true loves kiss for it to work. And ah. Ah."

"You know...I always wanted a Prince. Seems like i really did get one." Rarity smiled. "You complete me and I want to be with you...."

Applebuck gave a smile. He slowly begin to lean in, but was stopped by Raritys hoof. He gazed at her, confused.

"But as a mare."

Applebuck was shocked. "But but what about having a family? Having foals?"

"We'll talk about it when the time comes."

"Ya...ya sure? Ya really wanna be with a mare like meh?"

It was almost sunet. Just a few more seconds.

"I'm sure."  Rarity held a hoof on his cheek and gazed into his eyes. "I want to fall in love with my best friend Applejack, The mare i know."

He smiled. Then they both gazed at the sunset together. Rarity rested her head against his strong chest while Applebuck wrapped his hoofs around her.

It was time. It was sunset. Rarity felt a gust of winds and noticed that Applebucks body was getting smaller. Seconds passed. Rarity slowly looked up and saw her best friend. Applejack.

"Rare. Ah'm sorry." Applejack whispered.

"It's okay. Just never do that again." Rarity gripped her harder in a hug. 

"Gotcha."

Rarity smiled. She looked up towards her and leaned in, kissing her gently.

Applejack smiled against the kiss. This was what she wanted. A true loves kiss.

Rarity pulled away. "Now. Let's go heal your cheek. I'm sorry for slapping you."

"I deserved it." Applejack said. "But Ah'm lucky to have a mare like you."

"Yeah me too." They both headed back home, Rarity smiled. "Me too."
