The barn was as quiet as when they had left, but something was off. The barn door was closed, and Sam shifted his sawed-off shotgun into one hand as he cautiously slid it open. The door creaked and groaned with each inch it slid back, and Sam stopped as soon as he could slid through. Alayna followed, her smaller form easily fitting through. The front room was empty, but the air thrummed with power. Alayna pointed towards the second half of the barn, divided from the first by a large wooden wall.
Sam nodded, leading the way towards the door.
"Quit squirming, Mr. Winchester." A deep, firm voice reached the brunette's ears. It had a slight accent, but not one that Alayna could immediately place. "They're Houdini-proof. Now. You want to talk charges, or —"
"I'd rather talk about your Bukowski schtick at the bar," Dean snapped back, and from what Alayna could tell, he sounded more frustrated than scared. "What, you can't just jump a guy when he's sober?"
"You and the waitress had quiet a talk, huh?" Alayna pressed herself into the wooden wall as the other man continued. "Get a couple of drinks in you, and the guilt comes pouring out."
"Oh, eavesdropping — that's cute."
"Speaking of..." The voice grew louder. "You going to sulk all night, Sam? Alayna?" The door in front of them slid open on its own, and Alayna rolled her shoulders back as she and Sam were revealed. A man sat on a golden throne, one elbow casually resting on it's arm. The other hand held up a silver staff. He was wearing a black robe with a large silver necklace which confirmed that he was the Egyptian god Osiris. The firelight danced across his dark skin as he raised an eyebrow.
Dean craned his head to look back at them, and Sam led the way into the room. "Sam? Alayna?"
"Nice job finding us," the deity commended. "I assume you figured out who I am, too?"
Sam nodded. "Yeah."
Dean looked up at his brother who had stopped right beside him. "You want to fill me in?" he asked, voice growing hoarse. Alayna came up on the other side of him, kneeling down to try and yank at the chains holding him back. When it was clear they weren't budging she gave in with a heavy sigh, dark brown eyes flickering up to meet Dean's green one and he gave her a half smile at the effort.
"Osiris. He's an Egyptian God."
"Ta-da." Osiris held out his hand in a small gesture. "Now, go about your business." The deity attempted to shoo them away with a condescending tone and a small wave of his hand as Alayna slowly stood to her feet beside the older Winchester.
"Look, if anyone should be put on trial, it's me." Sam proclaimed.
Osiris's voice grew dangerously low. "That's for me to decide. Now go away."
"But he —" Sam scrambled for an idea, "—he has the right to an attorney. Doesn't he? Let me defend him."
"Huh." Osiris looked thoughtful. "Well, that's unusual."
"Are you going to respect his rights or not?"
"Why not?" Osiris watched as Sam took a seat on the other side of Dean and his eyes slowly traveled over to the brunette standing between them. "Alayna, you can join my jury."
She frowned, but before she could ask what he meant, his hand flew out to the side and the far wall moved revealing a set of bleachers with two familiar faces sitting their. Karoline jerked up straight at the movement, her wide eyes darting between the other in the room while Blair continued to struggle in the rope around her wrists.
"Kari?" Alayna took a slight step forward before she narrowed her eyes over at the God. "Let them go."
"I will. After the trial." He snapped his fingers and Alayna found herself sitting on the other side of Blair, the only binds holding her being a rope around her wrists but she still found that no matter how hard she tried she couldn't stand up.
