31st December was approaching. It was 28th today. Stefan had invited me for the New Year celebration too. He would be taking me, Sofia and Grandma to the city square. We would go to the mall and then at 12 we could see the fireworks. Ryan and Britney were back too and they would be joining us.

I was home and Britney was with me. We were planning what to wear that night. She had brought two dresses that she bought when she was on vacation.

"One is for you and one is for me," she said.

"You shouldn't have," I said as I took out the dresses from the shopping bag.

"Do you like them?" she asked and pouted.

"Of course I..," I lost words as I looked at the dresses. Both were so pretty.

 Both were so pretty

"I like the one with the bow infront," she said giving me a guarded look. I stared at her and then burst out laughing. She gave me a looklike I was crazy.

"What?" she asked looking exasperated.

"Nothing, you can have the one with the bow," I said still laughing. She was such a child sometimes.

"Okay thanks," she said engulfing me in a hug.

"C-can't breath!!" I said and she immediately loosened her hold.

*Dingdong*

"Was anyone supposed to come?" I asked Britney.

"Ryan did say he misses you," she said and I gave her a look.

"Okay okay, he said he misses us both," she said quickly. I laughed. Britney loved teasing me and she knew about Ryan and Stefan.

"You know he is smitten right?" she said quietly as we heard my mom open the door. And then everything happened fast.

Ryan opened the door, said hi to Britney and then his eyes rested on me. He stared at me for a solid 30 seconds I think before he realized he had been staring. He looked away and we both blushed. Britney started to fake cough.

"Hey," he finally said and smiled.

"Hey," I said and stood up. He hugged me. But he didn't let go.

"I-uh-I am gonna go see what your mom is doing," Britney said and excused herself.

Ryan still didn't let go.

"Ryan?" I said.

"I missed you," he said and sighed.

"I missed you too," I said but I think he took it the wrong way when he moved a little to look at my face. We were so close. Too close. He started coming more close. There was no space between us. And then he was angling his face. I didn't know whether I should stop him or what. I didn't want to make a decision. I wasn't ready. I liked the easy friendship we had.

Suddenly the door to my room opened and we both turned our faces that way. Thank god I thought to myself. But I took back that thought as I looked at the furious look on Stefan's face. Right behind him was Britney.

"What are you doing?" Stefan said looking at us. I was still in Ryan's arms and his face was inches from mine.

I hastily moved away from him.

"We-uh-," I didn't know what to say. Britney had a sorry look on her face.

"I missed her. Can't I hug my best friend?" Ryan defended himself.

"Hugging? Looked like it was about to turn to something else." Stefan said. He looked angry.

"It did not turn to something else,"I said and right then mom called me to help her arrange the table for dinner. So I came downstairs. Britney followed me.

"I tried to keep him but he would get suspicious. I really tried to stop him from seeing whatever happened," she said.

"It's good that he came," I said thinking of what would have happened of he hadn't come right at that time.
