"come here." jungkook called me. we were at a beach. it was probably around 10pm, but i didn't care. i went over to jungkook, who had the flashlight on his phone on. "what am i suppose to look at?" i bent closer to the water. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't scared. who the fuck thinks it's a great idea to put their feet in the fucking ocean this late at night?
"the fish." jungkook points out a finger waving over the water as a little creature started moving around. i watched as they ran away from the light. the wind blew gently, which wouldn't have been so bad if we weren't at the beach. i moves closer to jungkook for some warmth. he put an arm around me as we went back to the sand.
"do you want to head back?" he asked me. i shook my head, enjoying the way everything was looking right now. the moonlight was illuminating the waves. the moon's reflection in the ocean, looking like something from an old vcr. it was just missing the glitches.
jungkook's feet was buried in the sand. i laughed a little, but copied the action. it wasn't too bad of an idea. my feet were suddenly becoming warm.
jungkook turns his head over to me a little, "do you like the stars?" the stars were in view. you couldn't get something like this in the city. not the full view anyways. i hummed to his response. "what do you like about them?" what do i like about them?
"they're orbs of light in the sky," i continue, "and they're absolutely lovely. it's like i can look up and see hope."
"hope?"
"yeah, i think looking up at the stars is a final outlook. like, when you're just about to give up on something -- you either look up or down."
he chuckles a little, "what happens if you look down?"
"well, i hope you see yourself looking at a bunch of flowers at your feet." i chuckle with him. when the laughter dies, i ask the same question.
"it belongs to the universe, and the universe is always expanding for what we know. they're little holes in this pitch black sheet, and i see them as glimpses to the future."
i interrupted him, "so... something like hope?" he looks over to me, then at the ground for a brief moment. he takes a deep breath and looks back up at me, "i suppose, but it's not the same."
i nodded and gestured for him to continue.
"the stars, my dear amor, are forever here. when we leave. when the boys leave. when everyone in this planet has left. the stars are still shining. they've seen these famous people from higher ground. stars are like gods, but you can't prove that. stars die, but to us they're immortal."
i won't lie. i was taken aback by his words, "you like them because they're forever?"
"and because they're deceiving." he adds.
i chuckled a little to that.
we continued watching the stars in silence.
it was nothing but us, and the waves trying to reach us on the sand. of course, the stars were watching us too. their twinkles almost approving of what we were doing right now... a sudden thought came into my head and i couldn't help but say it outloud, enough for jungkook to hear at least, "where do you think you'll be in five years?"
i can tell he looks over to me because his hearing became a little louder, "i'd like to have a career by then," i turn my head to face him as he talks, "and hopefully, i'll already have someone i'd want to start a family with. i'd love to have a family one day."
"me too."
"i'm sure you and yoongi are gonna have some type of realization in the future that says 'hey, you! i want you!' and both of you will be the one with a family and a future and yeah." sadness drips on every word that comes out of his mouth until he's done talking. i sigh and put my hand on his shoulder, gently, "if you believe that, why go on this date with me?"
