The sickening and deep feeling never left Jessie as she stared down at her plate full of food. She blinked at it and poked it with her fork, the feeling worsening.
"Sweetie?" Jessie looked up into the eyes of her concerned mother and she swallowed hard at Cynthia. "Are you alright?" Jessie nodded slowly and Cynthia sighed, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, Mom."
"Oh, I know what's wrong with her." Jessie glanced at Jack curiously and her eyes widened as she saw his mischievous grin. He smiled wide and she shook her head quickly. Cynthia looked between the two with an eyebrow raised.
"Jack..." Jessie warned quietly.
"She has a crush." Jessie dropped her fork and folded her arms across her chest while glaring at Jack. Jack only winked and looked away to Cynthia.
Cynthia smiled and turned back to Jessie, "Aww! Finally! I've been waiting for my baby girl to have one... I mean, you're already seventeen and you've never been on a proper date."
"Because, Mom, I don't have time to date." She glanced up at her father across the table and saw that he hadn't been paying attention at all. He had his iPad out as he ate.
She looked down at her plate and grabbed her fork again to push and stab at her food. Silence hung in the air as Cynthia and Jack looked at each other. Jessie finally pushed her plate forward and stood up. She pushed her chair in and walked out of the room.
"Jessie! Where are you going?"
She turned around once to say over her shoulder, "I'm leaving for a bit, Mom." Cynthia opened her mouth as if she would say something but she shut her mouth as she heard the front door shut. She turned back to Jack and he merely shrugged as he continued to eat his hefty plate full of food.
"I wonder what that was suddenly about," She muttered.
Jessie shivered slightly from the fall chill that had settled over the city from the soon to be set sun. She drew her arms around herself and rubbed her arms slightly to get a temporary warmth. She walked forward and stopped in front of her car in the driveway. She dug into her pocket and clicked her keys to unlock her car.
She climbed in and shut her door. She put the keys into the ignition and she paused. The constant beep of the car recognizing the key filled the silence with a few barks of nearby dogs. She rested her head against the steering wheel.
She groaned, "What am I doing?.." She sat up straight and looked at herself in the window's reflection, "You have no business to go over there. He's alive so there's no real reason..." She trailed off as she stared back at herself.
Her ghostly reflection to her seemed drained. She admitted to herself that she hadn't been eating enough and she still had that terrible feeling inside of her. Her hand pressed against the window and she cursed under her breath. She turned back around toward the steering wheel and she cranked the ignition.

David stared down at his laptop looking over the words from earlier that day. He shook his head and closed the screen. He set it on the end of his bed and laid back against the wall, wincing as his back pressed against it. He glanced up at the clock at random moments to make sure of the time.
He stood up cautiously and bent down to pick up his shirt. He slipped it on with difficulty and glanced down at the bandages across his arms. They were beginning to show that they were beginning to soak in blood. He peeled one back and could see that the gashes were becoming slightly better but one was starting to turn green from infection.
"Dammit..." He looked down at that one gash and he sighed. He patted the bandage back down and grabbed his keys so he could lock the front door behind him as he left.
He was thankful that his little sister's school was a walking distance from his house. He wouldn't be able to stand much of the pain if it was any longer.
He stopped at the steps leading up and he looked at each one with a sigh. He sat on the bottom and decided to wait there till Shannon came out. Not long after she came running down the steps to him. She grinned at him and he chuckled.
"How did the the rehearsal thingy go?"
"It was awesome! Misty Baker got her arm broken so I replaced her part in the play!" She squealed, "I'm the princess now!" She jumped up and down a few times and he laughed.
"Awesome!.. Hey... You mind helping me up?" She nodded and took his arm, pulling on him till she fell backwards and he was standing again. She took his hand and they began to walk toward their small but full house.
He hadn't noticed it before but a small chill had set while he had been waiting for Shannon. He looked down at her and noticed how she was shivering, "Shannon... Didn't you have a jacket on when you went to school..? The one that mom bought for you?"
Shannon's head hung low and she nodded. She was quiet a few moments until David could hear her soft sobs, "They stole it..."
David stopped and looked down at her. She wiped her face as she continued to sob, "They... They stole it... Nobody... believes me..." David crouched down and focused on his sister to ignore the stabs of pain he was feeling. He held out his arms and she ran into them, beginning to cry on his shoulder.
He picked her up and began to walk again in the direction of the house again. Anger surged through him as he knew exactly who the little stealer had been. He stopped when he saw a car in his driveway that he didn't recognize. Shannon's sobs had died down long before so he was able to hear that the car's engine was still running.
He growled and set her down, "Go inside the house." Shannon did as she was told and ran up to the door, disappearing inside after she unlocked it with the key on her necklace.
David walked to the driver's side window and he was surprised to see Jessie with her head in her hands, shaking slightly. He tapped on it, still slightly angry from Shannon and seeing Jessie now.
Jessie jumped and looked out of the window. She blushed as she found David watching her and the feeling that had made her stop eating and made her sick gradually disappeared. The blush disappeared as she saw the anger all over his face and eyes. She pressed a button and the window rolled down quickly.
"Jessie... What are you doing here?"
