I attended school calmly with no error or getting into trouble. Eli kept his distance from me and i was thankful considering we apparently had three classes together including tap. We were sitting in the fourth period class quietly focusing on the entry task in front of us. When the class finished, once again there was an odd sensation when they noticed that Eli was still awake. Mrs. Morgan stood at the front of the room explaining this project in which she was going to randomly draw students and boom partners. She explained casually as she started calling off duo's then eventually after she said Eli's name was called she stopped looking up, she stared at the now empty jar.
"Huh, Elijah and Jasper." she said in an almost exhausted tone. Elijah jumped up and collided into the seat next to me.
"Looks like we're partners." he chuckled once again i gave Mrs. Morgan a pleading look, she shrugged then begun to explain the project in more detail.
"You and your partner will decide between creating a script and a short movie or a song to address a social issue. You will go to the library to check out a book and gather some information on said subject. You will then perform the created piece to the class." she said Elijah sat squirming in his seat, he looked like he wanted to spout everything that was going through his mind. Mrs. Morgan locked her eyes on us "I don't want any fighting."
I went to protest however, Elijah had already said alright. With that the class was let loose, he turned to me and said something incoherent as my phone had gone off. I flinched going for it, standing i left the classroom and answered Jannet's call.
"Yeah?" i asked
"We might have a slight situation with Lauren. She's been hospitalized over an incident that happened at work." Jannet said calmly.
"What happened?" i asked, she didn't speak for the longest time. "Mom?"
"Sorry, i was talking to the doctor. She lost her hand in a chopping accident." she said, sounding far to calm.
"Should i head over?" i asked turning back to the door.
"No. no, but could you please look for a job while she heals." she said, not even a hitch in her breath. Something wasn't right. I sighed running a hand down my face. "Jaz?"
"What, yeah, i'll work on finding a job." i said
"So you aren't going to rush over?" she questioned
"No. you want me to stay here." i stated turning from the door taking a few steps down the hall.
"Usually you'd come running home as soon as you were informed of some accident." she sighed
"So mom didn't lose her hand?" i asked
"No, she didn't lose her hand, we wanted you to come home so we could tell you that we were thinking about adopting this kid." Jannet said
"Eh? We just moved" i said
"Thinking Jaz, thinking; plus, she's a little british child that lost her parents on the boat ride over. So we offered to take her in." Jannet said
"Where did the whole thinking process go?" i asked leaning back against the wall.
"Right down the drain. We're currently converting the basement into your new room so she can stay on the same floor as us." Jannet stated.
"So, i'm moving all my stuff when i get home?" i questioned.
"Not quite. Her room has to be ready for her arrival at three so, while Lauren and a few of her pals are remodeling the basement my friends and i are setting up her room. Your stuff is just sitting in the hall. It'll be moved downstairs by the time you get home." Jannet said
"How is that even possible?" i asked "construction work should take months!"
"Do not underestimate the power of gays on a deadline." Jannet said. "The child's arrival should be around 9pm. See you when you get home."
She hung up on me, i pushed myself off the wall and started back inside. I made my way back to my seat. Elijah and Mrs. Morgan watched me as i entered. Before i was even able to sit down Eli was squirming in his seat again.
"How are you at singing? Because i was thinking we write a song on same-sex marriage." he stated before i was able to sit down.
"Same-sex marriage?" i questioned ignoring his first question. He nodded.
"Yeah!" he exclaimed, when he continued to speak i genuinely thought he was going to say a few homophobic thing, but no. he was all for same-sex marriage. "I for one have a set of gay uncles and my niece is gay--"
He stopped talking abruptly noticing that i was staring.
"You're not homophobic. Are you?" he asked i shook my head.
"No, my moms would kill me if i was." i stated turning away from him. Not like i could say anything along the lines that my life has been absolute shit over the fact that i had two moms.
