I decided not to tell Nona about my date. I didn't tell any of the sisters about it, actually. I wanted to pick out my own clothes and have my own thoughts on the... date. Not what Nona was feeling and thinking.

I got dressed in a tight purple dress and tennis shoes since we were going for a walk in the park. Like seriously, who does that on a date? A first date at that. No. It wasn't a date. It wasn't a date. It was just two people hanging out... when one liked the other.

What was wrong with this kid? Why couldn't he find someone else to like? Why did it have to be me?

He was right on time to pick me up. He didn't come to the door or honk the horn in his car. He just waited, like I'd asked him to. I didn't want to draw any suspicions with the rest of the girls.

I walked out to the car and his eyes looked me up a down. They stopped on my shoes and a smile spread on his face.

"Is this your way of still having control over the situation?" He leaned over to open the door, pushing it out. It wasn't a formal way of opening the door but it still showed he cared.

"You said it was a walk in the park. I can't walk in heels without my feet bleeding."

He raised his eyebrows but said nothing.

I got into the passenger seat just as my phone buzzed in my hand. I looked down and there was a message from Nona. I can't believe you didn't tell me about this. You owe me BIG TIME.

"Everything okay?" Michael asked, driving away from the house.

"Nona found out."

A smile hinted at his lips but he kept it at bay. "I thought you would've told them so if anything happened, they would know where to find you."

"I thought you wanted me to trust you."

"You can't trust me if you're not comfortable being alone with me."

I stared at him, confused. That wasn't something the son of the devil would say if he wanted to hurt me. That wasn't something the son of the devil would say at all.

"I really don't want you to do this because you feel like you have to."

"That's not what I'm doing here."

"Honest?"

I nodded. "You'd know if that's what I was doing."

"So, tell me, what do you do for a living?"

"I'm a secretary at a car dealership."

He laughed. "You're kidding."

"No. They pay well and I got a discount on my car."

He pulled into a parking spot, parallel parking as if he did it all the time. "Do the other girls have jobs?"

I laughed. "Decuma is the manager of a store in the mall, Morta is a personal trainer, and Nona is a personal shopper."

"I'm surprised. I honestly didn't expect them to work."

"Me neither. But that's what God wants."

He got out of the car and jogged around to my side. I was already getting out of the car but he pulled the door open more before shutting it behind me.

"So why did you want to bring me to the park? Anyone can go on a walk through the park."

"I wanted to start out small." He said, looking down at me. "There's lots of people and hardly any chance for privacy."

"That's not a very good idea for a first date."

"I can't enjoy myself if you're uncomfortable around me."

He was right though. I was way more comfortable with others around us than just being alone with him.

We walked in silence for a few minutes before he spoke. "Why did you agree to see me again?"

Even I didn't have an answer for that question. Michael was nice and charming but so was the devil. Instead of saying what I was thinking, I chose something else. "You wanted me to give you a chance."

"You don't strike me as someone who would give me a chance."

"I guess that's one of the perks of living with the Fates."

He smiled.

"So... do you work?"

"You could say that."

"Please don't tell me you work for your dad."

"I don't like the work my father does. I'm a doctor, actually."

I laughed. "A doctor?" He was really laying it on thick. He wanted me to believe he was a doctor? How dumb did he think I was?

"You don't approve?"

"You don't seem like the doctor type."

"What's the doctor type to you, then?"

"Someone tall with large hands and... a kind smile."

"Six-three isn't tall enough for you?"

I laughed and changed the subject. "What's it like?"

"There's drama, that's for sure."

"Sounds like my house."

"Do you like it there?" Of all the things he asked me, I was surprised to hear that. I thought he would want to hear more about the sisters or their powers or something... sinister.

Were those his real intentions? To learn more about the girls to tell his father? I couldn't tell if he wanted to see me or just hear things about them. I was trying to cut him some slack. I didn't want him to take advantage of me and break my trust.

"Yeah. I needed guidance and structure and a place to stay and they were there for me."

He smiled and it was genuine. "That must be nice."

"What does your mom do?" I'd never heard about his mother. I didn't know if the devil had a wife or girlfriend or anything. Was he gay? Talk about the ultimate way to smite God.

"That's... a long story." He hesitated.

"I don't have to be back early."

He held my gaze before he took a deep breath and started talking.
