I apologize for this update coming later than my usual 7-day schedule. I've had a lot of school and work to get through and as much as I'd like to write... I really can't. But I do have chapters backed up in case I can't. Anyway, here is chapter twelve. Please enjoy!

Nona was waiting on the porch when I got home. She had her phone clutched in her hand and a frown on her face. When she saw me, the frown intensified.

Crap.

"Nona, I-" I started as I got out of my car.

She interrupted, snapping at me. "Where have you been? You've been gone for hours and none of us knew where you were."

"I just needed to get out for a little while."

"Did you forget your phone, too? Can't bother to call or text one of us?"

I looked back in my car and my phone was in the cup holder. "I forgot about it. Look, I'm sorry, okay?"

"Do you remember the first time we met?" She walked down the steps and over to me, her arms wrapped around herself.

I nodded. "Of course."

"I told you I'd be there for you. I said I'd never let anything bad happen to you." She paused and I held my breath, waiting for what she was going to say. "How am I supposed to do that when I can't even find you?"

"I'm an adult, Nona. I can take care of myself for a couple hours."

Her eyes glazed over with tears. She kept them from flowing over. "I'm your best friend, Des. I don't know what I'd do without you."

I didn't know what to say. I didn't know what I'd do without her either.

She shook her head before walking back inside, closing the door behind her.

I grabbed my phone from the car and went into the house. None of the lights were on and I couldn't hear any of the girls moving around. I went up the steps and heard Nona talking to Morta. Nona was crying.

I wanted to listen in but the door was closed. I couldn't hear what they were saying but that they were talking. Probably about me.

I went to my room and closed the door. I quickly showered before crawling into bed.

My phone lit up on my bedside table as I pulled the blanket over me. I sat up on my elbow and glanced at the message.

Thanks for tonight.

I smiled to myself and laid back in bed. I couldn't wait to see Michael again.

Not wanting to run into the girls the next day, I left for work early. I put my work clothes in a bag and ran out to my car.

I drove to a middle school close to work and parked near the track. It was too early for any kids to be there so I knew I'd have time by myself.

I took off running and managed to go for several minutes before my lungs started burning. I sat down on the red ground, my hands on my hips.

What was I going to do about Nona? She was mad at me and I didn't know how to make it up to her. I could buy her things or go shopping with her but would it fix things? I knew if that happened to me, I wouldn't want someone to buy my love. But Nona and I did things differently.

I heard footsteps and opened my eyes to see a man walking toward me. He was wearing a dark blue suit without a tie. His dark eyes were on me as he approached. I felt like I'd seen him before but I had no idea who he was. Why was he here and why was he staring at me?

I was getting to my feet when he approached me and knelt down in front of me. He put a hand on my shoulder to prevent me from getting up.

"Destiny, what are your intentions with my son?" He asked in a crisp British accent.

"I - your son?" I didn't even know this man and he expected me to know who his son was? This man was crazy.

"Michael. He possesses feelings for you and I need to know what your intentions are with him."

He was Michael's dad. That made sense.

Wait...

I pushed myself away from him. "Get away from me."

His lips quirked up like he was going to smile. "I mean no harm for you."

"Why wouldn't you?"

"I came here strictly on family business."

"I can see why Michael doesn't like you."

"I suppose that shouldn't surprise me."

I stood up and took a few steps away from him. "We're done here."

He rose to his feet in a quick second and held his hand out to me to stop me from going anywhere. "You never answered my question."

"I don't plan to. Michael doesn't like you and I don't trust you. I'm not telling you anything."

"But you will." He cocked his head to the side and stuck his hands in his pockets. He said no more and we stood there staring at each other for several seconds. Very long seconds.

I started to walk toward my car but he put a hand on my chest and shoved me backward. I flew to the ground and slid a bit. I stared at the clouds in the sky, unable to move.

Lucifer walked over to me and looked down at me. "I have a job for you, my dear. I need you to find Michael and bring him to me. You'll know where to find me."

He disappeared and I looked around, trying to figure out what had happened. As if his words had power behind them, I felt a strong urge to find Michael.

I had to find Michael.
