Hell wasn't nearly as hot as I expected it to be. I expected to constantly be sweating and my face being too hot. I really wasn't expecting it to be bearable.

Though that could have been because my body was slowly getting used to things in Hell.

I stared at my feet under the fluorescent lights, willing myself not to cry and wake Michael up. I was done making all of my problems his problems just because his father was the devil. I needed to start dealing with things on my own. I couldn't rely on Michael to get me out of bad situations forever.

I peaked out of the bathroom once more to see Michael was on his stomach, a pillow pulled over his head. He was fast asleep and wouldn't be awake for several more hours.

I bit my lip and held my breath before running out to the bedroom. I slipped my shoes on and took one last glance at him before dashing out the door.

The secretary in the lobby narrowed her eyes as I walked by. "Break it off with Michael, huh?"

A growl escaped my lips. "That's none of your business."

She raised an eyebrow. "You know he was right about you."

"What?"

"You really are a demon."

"Mind your own."

She laughed before turning to her computer.

I shoved the door open and nearly ran into a tall man in a dark suit. He grabbed my shoulders and stopped me.

I glanced up and my eyes narrowed. "What are you doing here?"

Lucifer smiled. "It's so nice to see you, Destiny. You're looking lovely as always."

"You didn't answer my question."

He steered me away from the door and down the sidewalk to the store front. "My son is awfully fond of you."

"Stop changing the subject. Look, all I want is for you to change me back then I'll leave and never bother you again."

"See, I don't believe you. I know you won't stop seeing my son and that is bothering me."

"Why? You don't like seeing him happy?"

"Quite frankly I don't like seeing anyone happy. But besides that... my son has a bright future... here. Not on Earth. If I change you back, you'll go back to Earth and he'll go with you. I don't want that."

"He could still come see you."

"You and I both know that won't happen."

"I think I could convince him."

"He won't come without you and the only way you can be here is if you're a demon."

"So he's trapped because of me."

"More or less." He shrugged.

I sighed. "What if he leaves me here and goes back to Earth?"

"He won't do that. He's too... set in his ways. He couldn't bear to leave you here with me."

"Then I don't know what to tell you."

"Then it appears you will be here with me. Forever."

I turned around to face him. "I'm not staying here. I refuse. There has to be something you can do."

"I could do lots of things. I just don't want to do them."

I shoved him in the chest, getting very little movement on his part. "I'm not staying a demon forever."

"You will do as I say. And right, now I say you do."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Not happening."

A smile slowly slid onto his face and his eyes darkened to match mine. "I can tell your transformation is moving right along. It won't be long before you're here for good."

"I. Said. No." I growled, my voice deepening. I tried shoving Lucifer again but he grabbed my wrists and pushed my hands back toward me. His eyes were practically glowing and there was a dark aura around him that was getting close to me.

"You do not get to come into my home and tell me what to do. You don't make the rules. I make the rules. As my fabrication, you follow my rules without question. Is that clear?"

I took a step back, pulling out of his grasp. "You don't need to break my arm to threaten me."

He took the step toward me, getting in my face. "I can do much worse, Destiny."

"Get the hell away from her."

Both Lucifer and I turned to see Michael standing just a few feet away. Michael was still in a t-shirt and shorts. He didn't have shoes on and his hair was a mess.

Lucifer's eyes went back to their normal color and he forced a smile. "Michael, this is none of your concern-"

"If it involves Destiny, then it is. Stay away from her."

"She's mine now, Michael."

"Ruining my life doesn't make me want to me to stay here. It makes me hate you even more." Michael took a step toward me but Lucifer separated us. He knocked Michael to the ground and knelt down beside him, his hand on Michael's chest.

"Making her a demon was exactly what I needed to do to get you to stay." He nodded his head at me and Michael's eyes widened.

"Stop it! Change her back!" He yelled.

Lucifer stood and brushed the knees of his pants off. "What's done is done."

I glared at him as he took a few steps before disappearing in thin air. I went to Michael and knelt down in front of him. I held a hand out to help him up and gasped.

My hand was black. My arm was black. Even my fingernails were black. It wasn't just dark brown. It was black. The color of death.

Michael sat up and came to me. He grabbed my hands in his and his expression became more soothing than shocked. "Destiny, look at me."

Slowly, I lifted my head, black hair falling over my shoulders. I met his gaze, seeing my dark resemblance reflected back at me.

"I'm going to fix this. I have an idea and it's crazy. But I need you to trust me."

He'd let me down many times since Lucifer turned me into a demon. Time and time again he promised to help me and time and time again I didn't get any better. Now that things were official, was there any point in trusting him?

I shook my head slowly. "What's the point anymore?"

"Destiny, this doesn't have to be the final say. We can still try and-"

"I'm tired, Michael. I'm tired of trying and getting hurt."

He pressed his forehead to mine and I saw tears starting to surface. "Please, Des."

I sighed. "Fine. But if this doesn't work, you have to promise me you won't stay in Hell."

"But-"

"I won't let you give him what he wants."

He pressed his lips to mine tightly. "I love you, Destiny."

"I love you too."
