*Stevie's POV*
The last couple of days have been nothing but in the studio working on music. It's been fun, lots of laughing and lots of music. My two favorite things besides Ellie.
Today we are holding auditions for my band. I need a drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, and a bassist. I need to choose four people out of over a hundred. Everyone wants the job, only few get it. I've always wanted an all girl band, so that's a big thing I'm looking for.
They take me into a big conference room that is empty except for a table with three chairs, three clipboards, three pencils, three lists of people auditioning. My manager - Henry, my assistant - Maddi, and myself are the judges.
We sit in the chairs and I look at the list. They bring out a drum set, I'm guessing that's what we will be seeing first. A man stands at the entrance door with a clipboard with the same names as we have on ours. He opens the door and calls the first name. I get a quick glance at all the people out there. Mostly girls, few guys. That's what I asked for.
I'm told to choose my top three from each instrument and we will have call backs after a lunch break. I have my top three in each instrument category. I need to go eat.
I leave and walk down the street to a nice café. I order my food and sit there waiting for it. I'm joined by a guy who looks to be in his early twenties, like me. He sits across from me. I look up from my phone and look at him. He looks at me trying to be flirty. I raise one eyebrow...
"Excuse me?" I ask.
"I'm Ryan. You are?" He holds out his hand.
"Stevie." I say and shake his hand.
"Stevie, how would you like to give me your digits?" He raises his eyebrows.
"I'm taken." I say.
"But your here alone. No one seems to care enough to be here with you."
I give him a death glare.
"Just so you know my girlfriend is across the world working her fucking ass off right now. She has a very important job as an entertainer. She does care. If she could, she would be here to tell you to fuck off."
"Oh, so now you're gay too?" He chuckles.
"I have been my whole life."
"Sounds to me like your making up stories."
"I'm not." I say and stand up.
I walk to the counter and ask for my food to-go. They bring it out to me and I leave. I get a taxi to my hotel and I go up to my room. I sit out in the small balcony and eat my food while I try to enjoy everything. I start crying. Why do douche face guys always try to hit on me. When I say I'm in a relationship or that I'm gay, that should be the end. They shouldn't consistently try, nothing they say is going to change anything. It really pisses me off.
I just sit there and stare at the view and cry. I miss Ellie so much already, she would be here to comfort me and stand up for me. I wonder what she is doing? I want to call her, but I still don't know the time difference. I look it up and realize that she is seven hours ahead. Quite a big difference. I decide to text her to see what she is doing.
Stevie: Hey babe, are you available?
I wait until I get a reply but my phone starts ringing instead. I get really excited and butterflies feel my stomach. I pick it up and realize it's just Maddi.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Hey, where the fuck did you go? We're ready to start up again." She asks in a hurried voice.
"I'm at my hotel, crying. Will you come get me?" I ask.
"I'll be there in a couple minutes." She says and hangs up.
I look at my new messages. Ellie texted back!
Ellie: I go on in a half hour. Call me?
I quickly call her. It rings twice before she picks up.
"Hey love!" She says and I can just picture her adorable smile.
"Hi cutie."
"What are you up to?" She asks still in her cheery mood.
"Just waiting for my assistant to pick me up." I answer. I walk outside the hotels front doors and look around for Maddi. It randomly started raining about five minutes ago, I don't mind. It fits my mood.
"Are you done with the auditions?" She asks.
"No." I say. I don't wanna have to face people and let them down. I just want to be alone right now. I let tears continue to fall from my eyes.
"Stevie, what's wrong?" God, she just knows when things aren't right.
"Nothing." I lie.
"Stevie, I know that something's wrong. I may have not known you for very long but I know you, probably everything about you. Tell me, what's wrong love?"
"I'm having an awful day!" I say and let soft sobs escape my mouth. "all I want is a comforting hug and you to tell me that everything is alright. But you're not here. You're too far away!" I yell into the phone regretfully. I know it's not her fault...
*Ellie's POV*
"Stevie, it's not my choice -" I say calmly after getting yelled at until she cuts me off.
"Don't leave..." she cries. "I need you!" She quotes one of my songs.
"But I'm already gone." my heart breaks and I fall to the ground.
She hangs up the call. I pull my knees to my chest and bury my face in my arms and start to cry. Why does distance have to fuck everything up?
