The first thing I ever see are eyes.
Blue eyes, gray eyes, brown eyes, thousands of different colors stare back at me.
Where am I?
Suddenly every pair of eyes fade away except for a pair of bright yellow ones.
"Rebecca!" The woman who owns the eyes shouts, obviously very relieved and even a little scared. "You're ... alive."
"Yes, and you're screaming," I try to retort, but all that comes out is a dry croak.
"Don't hurt yourself," she says. "You're going to be alright."
Was something ever wrong?
The woman is obviously now very confused. "Caleb?" she asks.
"What, Sare? " the man- Caleb- snaps from the other room.
"She's awake."
Caleb enters the room almost immediately. "Not... Possible. She's been asleep so long, she can't just wake up. It's illogical, Sarah." What's illogical? What on earth is going on?
"Tell that to Rebecca."
Caleb walks over to my bed- at least, I'm assuming it's mine, for by what these people tell me I've been in this bed for quite a long time-and just stares at me. His eyes are unnaturally green; they are bright, deep, and beautiful.
"Hello!" I shout. Weird. Just a few minutes ago my voice was only a dry croak, but now I can talk, scream even.
Caleb jumps, obviously startled, and I giggle.
"This is not normal." Caleb says, panting.
"She's not normal, is she?"
Caleb mutters something, and grabs a stethoscope- at least, I assume he grabbed it at one point, even though I never saw him reach for it. It couldn't just appear in his hand, could it?
He presses it against my chest, then turns pale. "There's no heartbeat," he mutters.
"What?" Sarah asks.
"There's no heartbeat," he says loudly.
"So they were right," Sarah mutters.
"Well, you know it was true. You were there."
"I know, but.. It's weird. After so many years, you'd think that-"
"Excuse me? Could you please stop talking about me as if I'm not in the room?" I shout.
"Sorry, Becca. It's just... Today isn't a normal day."Sarah says.
"It's not normal for me, either. "
Caleb says nothing.
"Can someone tell me what's going on?" I say. "Like, what the hell just happened? Who are you people, where I am, how I got here? I'm just as confused as you are, if not more."
"You-- you don't remember anything?" Sarah asks, obviously upset.
"No. And I would appreciate some answers."
The man looks dissapointed. "Nothing? You remember absolutely nothing? Not even your name?"
I shake my head, and he scowls.
Sarah puts a hand on his shoulder. "We knew this was a possibility. I'd think it might be better for her not to remember." They give each other a knowing glance, and I frown.
"You're right. Yes, of course, you're right." Caleb runs his eyes with his palms. "Tell her."
"I'm Sarah," she says. "This is my brother, Caleb. You've beem sleeping here for... a while."
