You sat up against a tree, right near where Chris had just been buried.

Everyone else had already left and you were sitting all by yourself and crying.

And as if matters couldn't get worse, it started to rain.

But what's a little rain, anyway?

As soon as you thought that, thunder boomed.

No lightning yet but if there was, under a tree was the worst place you could be.

But you honestly felt so apathetic, and you stayed where you were, crying.

A little time passes and the weather got worse. You found yourself shivering as the wind picked up and it began to rain harder. Thunder boomed and in the distance, lightning crackled.

And for the first time, you were afraid.

Suddenly, you heard your name being shouted, "(y/n)!!"

Pause.

"(y/n)!! (y/n)!!"

And then Sebastian is walking towards you with an umbrella.

Your heart picks up speed.

"(y/n)! come on! it's dangerous out here!" he shouted to you, offering you his hand.

You just stared at it.

"(y/n), come on!" he tried again.

You looked up at him, "Chris is dead so the hell with me being safe. What's the point?"

"You don't mean that. Come on, (y/n)," he insisted.

You stared at him blankly.

Your heart was so heavy.

You looked past him to where Chris had just been buried.

It was all your fault....

the tears returned.

"I'm not gonna ask again," sebastian said fiercely.

"you're right. you're not," you replied, and his face twisted in anger.

Suddenly, he was grabbing your arm and forcing you to your feet.

"Excuse me??" you said, annoyed.

But you were so numb.

He closed his umbrella and folded it into something very small and shoved it in between his pants and underwear like a pocket.

Then he was grabbing your waist and picking you up.

He slung you over his shoulder and began to walk, holding you.

You squirmed and punched his back and screamed, "PUT ME DOWN SEBASTIAN!! LET ME DIE HERE WITH CHRIS!!"

"You don't actually want to die," he said as the two of you began to get more drenched in the rain.

"I JUST WANT THIS BURDEN OFF OF ME!!" you screamed and your voice cracked, and you began to sob.

You stopped flailing and squirming and punching.

You went limp as your horrible thoughts ran loose.

•••

You got to the car and Sebastian opened up the passenger seat and put you inside.

You were drenched and freezing.

Your teeth wouldn't stop chattering.

You knew your makeup was ruined- why hadn't you known to go waterproof to a FUNERAL?

But also now that you were actually exposed to rain as well...

Sebastian got into the drivers seat and looked over at you.

"(y/n), are you okay??" he said, concern filling up his tone.

"Are you really asking me that, Sebastian?" you groaned, looking out the window at the rain falling on the cemetery.

"(y/n)?" he asked.

You continued looking out the window.

"(y/n). look at me," his tone was firm, but did you care? nope.

Your eyes continued to observe.

"(y/f/n)," he said, and this time he grabbed your face and turned it so you were staring right at him.

On normal circumstances your heart might've skipped a beat at him touching you.

But you were so numb, you couldn't even get that.

He was staring at you so intensely, but you just stared back blankly.

"You said you had a burden. Care to share?" he asked, his tone going soft.

You pushed his hand off your face but kept the eye contact.

"Yes. My boyfriend just died. Is that abnormal?" you replied bitterly.

"It seemed like more than that. And yes...i'm aware..." you noticed his eyes getting misty, "You know you weren't the only one that lost someone so important to them. You're just choosing to react this way."

"Fine, Sebastian, you wanna know what burden I'm carrying?? ITS MY FAULT, SEBASTIAN. I WAS THERE WHEN HE DIED. I WAS DRIVING THE DAMN CAR. BUT DID I DIE? NO. IM THE FREAKING SURVIVOR. THE STUPID SURVIVOR. WHY COULDNT I HAVE BEEN THE ONE THAT DIED?" your tone went softer, "i would do ANYTHING to have traded places with him. Why did the one driving the car survive but the passenger die?? IT HAUNTS ME SEBASTIAN. ITS ALL MY FAULT AND IT HAUNTS ME."

You had completely lost it by now, and you were sobbing so hard.

You opened up the car door and got out, slamming the door behind you and beginning to run.

You heard him get out of the car.

He was screaming your name as he chased you, but the sounds of the storm muffled it.

Your lungs were on fire and your legs were aching and your head was spinning.

But physical pain meant nothing to you.

Your heart was aching, and although physical things can be an easy fix, your heart could not be.

The tears wouldn't stop and suddenly you tripped on something and fell onto the grass, faceplanting.

You didn't bother getting up and just lied there, soaking up the rain.

But then Sebastian was picking you up and you were on your feet, looking up at him.

He looked exhausted and sad but also...terrified.

He was terrified for you.

And that's when he just wrapped his arms around you, pulling you against him and hugging you so tight.

The tears didn't stop.

You could tell he was crying too but he just held you.

And just in this moment, you felt safe.

Because you knew you had a friend.

A friend who cared about you and was there for you.
