I bit my lip in concentration as the car jostled along the road. We were on our way to school and I was on my way to a mental breakdown.
To be fair the day started out promising enough, I had a good night's rest with a minor twinge of unease. The kind I get when I'm being watched, but I brushed it off as Charlie coming in to check on me at night. I mean, what else could it be? I woke up early and grabbed my things: makeup, shoes, dress and purse and headed out the door.
The graduation ceremony starts at 8 Pm but Angela and I had a whole set of plans. We had a whole spa day at a chic new saloon in Seattle that had major positive reviews about it. As we were finishing up our hair treatment and moving on to manicures and pedicures, someone else joined the saloon.
Alice, Rosalie and Leah apparently had a nail appointment as well and we all chatted pleasantly through it all until they had to leave and we were headed towards the massage parlour.
It was there that Angela voiced her opinion on them.
"You know, now that I know who they are, it seems that I notice the smallest things that distinguish it," She said as she lifted her face from the face down position that the masseuse instructed her to lie in. The lady herself and her assistant scurried off to grab some essential oils.
I chuckled at what Angela said. "Same thing happened to me by the way. At first I knew something was wrong but when I knew exactly what it was, I began noticing all the other signs," I explained to her.
She raised her eyebrows at me and said incredulously, "You mean to tell me you didn't know until they told you?"
At my sheepish smile she added, "The boys said you're a walking talking bestiary, though"
I laughed at her confusion and said, "It's true that I know alot of supernatural and mythical creatures but it's part of some ingrained knowledge in my mind and seems that cold ones isn't something I should particularly worry about." The last part was said dryly and we shared a laugh about it before changing the topic to our makeup as soon as we heard the masseuse approaching.
The rest of the day has gone perfectly and when we came back at 2 to Forks we grabbed a bite at one of the diners before heading home to Angela's.
We started on our makeup and outfits immediately and in record time we finished at 7:05. We started downstairs to wait for Ben who is our ride and for Mrs. Weber to take a ton of pictures.
Five minutes later he arrived and I gotta say it was the cutest thing ever. As soon as Ben saw Angela the bouquet that he held fell to the floor along with his jaw. Angela blushed a bright red as he stood frozen in the middle of the living room. Angela's mom smiled widely and snapped a good couple of dozen pictures. At least.
I totally get Ben though. Angela looked stunning is an A-line that was a soft pink. The dress itself was a mass of sparkles at the bottom and soft lace at the top that not only made her look good but made me contemplate lesbianism. It was a strapless and went well with her lightly tanned skin. Her peep toe pink heels matched the dress and the pink and white clutch. Her makeup consisted of blended white and pink shades and her lashes were long and black curling over her blue eyes. Her hair was up in a princess updo and the saloon visit made her black hair look more luscious than usual. Completing her look was soft pink lip gloss that made her look like the dream girl of every guy, and a pair of diamond stud earings and and pretty diamond choker.
I myself was wearing a sleek black and red number. It was clingy and hugged my curves perfectly. The top started a dark red and changed to sequined black around my waist untill the end. Since I'm wearing red pumps I didn't risk it by letting my dress be floor length. The dress itself was one shouldered and looked good against my complexion and the jewelry that consisted of a pair of silver stud earrings. My hair was swept to the side in curls and somehow looked good with my makeup that was dark and smokey; my eyes done dramatically to better emphasizes the green and gold in them. My lips were painted a blood red that matched my clutch and damn did I look good.
Once he got over his initial shock and greetings were exchanged Ben smirked at me and said, "Your date is here."
I was confused because I didn't have a date since I was too busy running around with the pack stuff.
Someone covered my eyes and a deep voice said, "Guess who?"
I didn't even need to take a sniff to know who. I whirled around and flung myself into Andrew's arms. He laughed and so did everyone. A million questions ran through my mind but they were all quashed when he smiled at me and said, "You look beautiful"
That caused all the blood that was working on the questions running through my mind to rush to my face and colour me a ghastly red that caused everyone to laugh. At me. Again. Bastards.
We took more pictures and neither Andrew nor I missed the hopeful glances that Mr and Mrs Weber exchanged or the ones Mr Weber kept casting at his daughter's dress, as expected of a Reverend. Also Andrew and Angela's twin brothers, Joseph and Jonah, both of them ten and already on the verge of making it to my 'Will murder at further notice' list with the way they were making kissy faces at us and singing the good ol' sitting in and tree rhyme.
Andrew and I must have made unconscious moves towards the two brats to shut them up when Angela and Ben subtly restrained us. That didn't stop us from flashing the twins matching grins that were all teeth and no good intentions as soon as the other four were busy inspecting the pictures. The twins shrieked and ran away to hide. Good.
It was once we were in the car that the usual banter changed to serious conversation.
"Andrew," Angela said softly from her shotgun seat with Ben as driver.
Andrew sighed and gave his hand a squeeze from my position next to him, "Yeah, I noticed."
"Did I make your problem worse?" I asked guiltily.
He flashed me a heart stopping smile and shook his head, took my hand in his and said, "I don't regret coming here for your and Angel's graduation."
I smiled softly and turned to Angela when she gave a snort. Next to her Ben had his head turned to the side while driving and I know he had his confused face on trying to figure out what's wrong.
"We'll explain later," Angela informed Ben after she got a nod from her brother.
After that the remaining ten minutes of the car ride was continued in hearty banter and playful insults.
Three wolves and a mate in a car insulting each other on the way to graduation. Shh don't tell anyone; no one will believe you.
Once we were five minutes away and the street started to get a bit crowded Angela and I redid our lipstick and fixed ourselves up.
"Can't wait to hear your speach, Bells," Andrew said and I froze.
I saw Angela look at me in her hand mirror and at my horrified face hers slowly paled. She whipped around and said, "Please tell me you have a speech ready!"
I felt all the blood leave my face. Dammit, I'm Valedictorian and I forgot to prepare a speech!? Oh nevermind that sounds about par for me.
