"Rise and shine cupcake." Dylan says tussling my hair. I groan softly. "We're here." I shake my head. The last time I was awake we were driving though Mississippi. "What?" He gets out closing his truck door. I sit up looking at the farm house in front of me. "Oh wow..." I say stumbling out of the passenger seat. "Hope you like farming." He says with a small laugh. I scuff. "Oh no I want to go to school like a normal kid again."
He laughs harshly. "Serah you haven't been to school since you were twelve." I roll my eyes. "And?" He walks into the porch turning the door knob. "Someone better pull their big girl boots on. You're a farmer now." I huff crossing my arms stepping off to see what's behind the house. I see fields and fields of empty pastures. I follow along the fence seeing a horse running towards me on the opposite side. I don't think too much of it until I see the person riding the horse. I'm frozen in my spot even though I want to run.
He slows coming up on me and I see that he's actually a very handsome guy with a brown cowboy hat and a nice southern attire.
He smiles at me tipping his hat. "Well hello there." I stare up at him not to sure what to say because this is the first person I've talked to really in years. "I'm Jacob. Are you new around here?" I nod softly. "Serah!" I turn sharply. "I-I um..." I start to stumble back before turning to take off towards the house. "I'm here!" He steps out onto the porch. "Where were you?" I turn looking at the receding cowboy. "Just exploring I guess." He hums. "Okay well wanna help me unload this stuff?" I huff. "Sure." He nudges me as we head out to his truck and I smile nudging him back.

"That's the last of it." I say wiping my brow and sighing. He puts his arm around my shoulders. "Good. Why don't you head down to the grocery store and get some stuff for the house?" I gasp. "Really?!" He nods handing me forty dollars. I snatch the keys from him rushing out to the pickup. He barely has time to waive before I'm pulling off. I drive for what seems like forever because we lived literally in the middle of no where. I eventually just decide that I'm lost after driving around in circles for about half an hour.
I come up on a person locking a fence up nice and tight. I slow down peeking my head out of the driver window. "Excuse me can you help me I'm kinda lost?" The guy turns softly with a huge grin and I recognize the guy as the owner of the horse I saw him perched on earlier. "So you talk? Interesting." I blush lightly. "Sorry about that. I'm not used to talking to people." He frowns stepping over to lean on my truck. "Why's that?"
I sigh. "Long story but I'm trying to find a grocery store, can you help?" He gives me this toothy grin. "Sure I was just headed out there myself. Mind giving me a ride?" I think chewing on my lip before nodding. He steps around getting in. He smiles at me and I blush pulling off. "So what's your name stranger?" I laugh. "Serah." He hums. "It's nice to meet you...again. Take a right up here." I do driving in silence for a bit. "So where'd you come from?" I think for a second nibbling on my lip.
"Seattle." I watch him hoping he won't know who I am even though there's really no way he could have. "Wow city to country. Big change." I intake a breath. "Yeah hopefully a good one." He points to the left signaling for me to turn and I do. "By yourself?" I sigh shaking my head. "My brother brought me here. He's my legal guardian." He nods. "No parents?" I frown. "That's not a good topic for me." He quickly opens his mouth. "Right I'm sorry." The truck falls silent for a second.
"It should be up here on the right." I smile seeing the store. I pull in parking the truck before getting out with him. We walk side by side towards the market. "Oh my gosh Serah?!" I freeze hearing my name before lookin over to see a ginger about my age.
"Amanda?!" She rushes over to me giving me a hug. "Wow I thought I'd never see you again!" I huff. "Yeah I didn't think so either." She smiles. "What are you doing here?!" I glance at Jacob. "Well you know who things were with mom and dad." She frowns. "Yeah but I never thought that it was your fault. I never could understand why those people blamed you and Dylan." I nod softly.
"You know you should be careful though some of the people around here are familiar with the stories. They may become hostile towards you as well. I've heard some nasty comments but just keep your head low as much as it sucks." I huff again not liking the sound that people here knew about me as well. "Will do." We say our goodbye and Jacob and I continue to the store. "I thought you don't talk about your parents." I frown. "I don't because everyone hates me because of them." He gives me a warm smile. "I don't hate you." I scuff. "If you knew the stories, you'd hate me too."
Enjoy.
