Ivy never thought herself as something special. Yes, she was a hybrid. No, she didn't have anything to show for it. Every scale was Rainwing. The only difference were the small gills on her face, and she could hide them with her ruff any time. Also, her teeth didn't spit venom. She was lower than special. Being half Seawing made things worse.

She also wasn't good at tree gliding. She could never get it right. She was always flinging herself into trees. It was easy enough to hide being a hybrid. Her dad had specially asked for her to be trained by him. This way, they could go and pick fruits every day. Tree gliding wasn't a subject in her agenda. Every day was the same.

Another thing that was different...she didn't know much of a family. Ever since Glory became the queen, she sent out special requests so every dragonet was tested with every dragon in the tribe to see if they were related. It was very simple - spit venom in a cup and she'd test it with everyone else. The only problem was...Ivy didn't have venom. She had to excuse herself from the tests. Now, she didn't know who her family was. The only dragon who she knew was her family was her dad.

It was hard enough being herself. Her problems were circling her mind like hawks. Still, she wasn't special. Her problems were that she was below special. She was below normal. She was useless. Her dad didn't even tell her anything about her mother. Of course, he told her that she was a Seawing. He told her that she always worried about things. He talked about her when he thought she wasn't listening. Still, she knew nothing about the dragon who was her other parent.

"Ivy, wake up! We're taking a tree gliding lesson together. You have to bring your dad." Dazed, Ivy only half heard her best friend, Toxin, even speak. It took her a moment to recognize what he said.

"Tree gliding? My dad?" She cried. Toxin only nodded. "He's in one of his moods. Staring at his hammock, but not getting inside of it. I don't think he can come, so I guess I should just go take care of him." She lied.

Toxin shrugged. "You can just go without him, then. It would be better with a trainer...but my trainer can excuse him for today. Come on, tree gliding is fun!" He exclaimed. Ivy exhaled a long suffering sigh.

"Fine. I'll go get him." She swished her thick tail, feeling defeated. She couldn't do anything this time to get out of tree gliding.

She nudged her dad's shoulder. "Tree gliding lessons." She whispered. He grinned in a sort of crazy way that was freaking her out a bit. She didn't have any natural defense, and prepared her scales to vanish in case he went insane.

"Tree gliding lessons! I love tree gliding lessons! Is your brother coming?" He asked. She felt a wave of confusion, and felt her scales change color. He blinked, not confused at all with his strange comment.

"I don't have a brother, Dad." Her voice went even lower as she tried to comment a rude remark. He shrugged.

"Your mom can come. She was always good at tree gliding for a Seawing." He added. She frowned. He was really into it today.

"Mom is gone. She left when you took my egg to the rainforest." She inhaled, preparing a long sigh after he couldn't hear.

Her father talked about her made up brother a lot. He always added him into conversation, slipped him into her mind. Sometimes, she thought he might have existed, and her father wasn't crazy about that. Still, he never talked to her if he did exist. The story only included her. Lichen and her mother decided on her name, and he took her and her alone back to the rainforest. There was no other dragonet in the story.

"You and your brother." He replied, raising both brows as if teaching her a lesson. She shrugged.

"Me and my brother." She breathed. She wished that was true. She wished her brother was here now.

They walked over to the tree gliding area. Lichen was hopping from claw to claw. "Time to glide!" He squealed. Toxin rolled his eyes.

"Ugh...yeah. My tail hurts." Spit, Toxin's trainer, remarked.

"Same here! I had to stretch it really high to reach a fruit." Lichen replied, grinning. Toxin lashed his tail, as if bored of the older dragons chatting.

"Well, I had to teach a dragonet how to tree glide. You know how that is. He made me crash into a tree. Tail-first." He growled dryly.

"Too bad. Snout-first is so much better!" Lichen chuckled. Spit raised a brow.

"Okay...lets get started then."
