"It was a long time ago when I met your mother. At first, I stayed in the rainforest. One day, however, we led a patrol to the beach to...discuss things with your mother. Back then, it was only a little rivalry between us and the Seawings. Nothing dramatic. Not anything to start a war about, at least." He chuckled.

Ivy knew about the Seawings and the Rainwings. Apparently, the Seawings were fighting with them over a thin strip of beach that the Mudwings didn't really want. It was already going on when she was born, and for the 5 years of her existence, Glory and Coral were fighting over it. No patrols had been sent out to fight, but Glory was making it clear to the Rainwings that she thought there was going to be a war.

"It was then I first saw Cascade," He trailed off, dreamy. Snapping back into focus, he continued his story. "Cascade was one of the Seawings sent to talk to us. Back then, all I could think was fear, fear, fear. My scales were green, and even with the effort to change them, I couldn't. Cascade could tell I was scared. I knew it. She could see I was the only Rainwing not red and orange. She could tell I was just pale green from snout to tail. I saw her give me a sympathetic look."

"The next day, only Queen Glory, me, and another Rainwing were sent to deal with the territory problem. To my surprise, only Cascade and Coral showed up. Coral and Queen Glory fought a lot. There were many red thunderclouds. Cascade was just...watching. I guess I was too, but I was still green. Cascade addressed me quietly and told me that it would be alright, and told me that Queen Coral didn't care that much. I told her that I was probably going to be back the next day anyway."

"I was. Alone, just sent to check and see if a patrol was sent from Coral. I was just checking to see what the Seawings were up to. Cascade was there. Alone. I guess she just wanted to see me and was curious to see if I chickened out. When she saw me, we just stared at each other for a while. She suddenly brought up a lively conversation about whales that I was able to follow along with for a while."

"That started the times we had together. I met with her many times. We were in a trance. After a couple meetings, I decided to move to the beach, and live in a small bush. She showed me a trail to the deep palace that the Seawings built for Blister in case it got in dire need for her to come there. She taught me to swim. She taught me everything I ever needed to know to live there. Soon, the Seawings got used to me. I went to her house a lot. She even built a little air pocket so I could breath and talk to her."

"On the day of a terrible storm, she admitted to me that she was having eggs. This was such an excitement to me, and I was so happy that we were having eggs that I didn't mind the problem at all. She admitted that she was scared, and didn't want them. She told me that the eggs were going to stay in the rainforest, because if they hatched and didn't have gills, they would drown, and she didn't think the Seawings would accept more Rainwings, even if they were only half."

"I didn't know that meant she wasn't coming until the third day of the storm when she actually had eggs. She told me that she didn't want them to grow up without a parent. She told me she had to stop seeing me. She told me that I wasn't to come back to the Sea Kingdom. I didn't know what she actually meant. I didn't know that meant she wasn't going to come live in the rainforest."

"When your eggs hatched, I was too blind to see the truth. I didn't know that day was the end. I didn't know why Cascade was so sad. She let me have the eggs, and told me to take them to the rainforest. After that, she disappeared into the ocean. I never saw her again since then. I was left with our dragonet, you. I was left to raise you, and I was left alone." He finished.

Ivy felt more sorry for him than ever before. It sounded like Cascade was the perfect match for her giddy father. He didn't deserve to be left alone with Ivy, and have to throw away his future with Cascade. It wasn't fair.

"Dad?" She asked. He gave her a deep look. "I want to see the sea. I want to go to the ocean."

"I want to go home."
