Jesus Take The Wheel
Mercedes was in her black van on her way home from LA to little Ohio. She saw the familiar blue small car her husband, Sam, owned a few cars a head. She couldn't tell if it was him but her gut told her the blonde hair in the side mirror was defiantly him. She noticed she has about fifty more miles from home and with the way the snow looked, she wouldn't be in her warm house any time soon. She turned around to see her son, Ayden, in his small brown-grey car seat zoned out. Mercedes went a little over the speed limit to make time go faster when she felt her car hit something and before she could look, her car started to spin on the icy road. She didn't know what to do so she did what she learned to do in Glee club; she sang her prayer to Jesus.
She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy with the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline
It'd been a long hard yearThe car flipped over and she panickly continued her prayer.
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way too fast
Before she knew it she was spinning on a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the airA tear rolled down Mercedes dark skin, making a light mark.
Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheelShe glanced over to her son and saw him frozen. Another tear had fallen, followed by hundreds of tears at once.
It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life
I know I've got to change
So from now on tonightThe car suddenly stopped and Mercedes continued her prayer, looking directly at her son.
Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
Oh, Jesus take the wheelMercedes looked down as her crying became too much.
Oh, I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheelShe looked back up after sniffling her tiers and saw her sleeping baby boy. Her prayer slowly coming to an end.
Oh, take it, take it from me.
Oh, wow, ohhhhh.Mercedes woke Ayden up and looked at his beautiful green eyes. "You're okay." Mercedes smiled, wiping her tears away. She unbuckled his seat and took him in her bloody arms. As paramedics came to help, Mercedes never let Ayden out of her sight. "Baby! Are you okay?! How's Ayden?!" Sam panickly stuttered into the phone. "I'm okay. He's okay. I'm just glad we survived." "You gave me a heart attack. Come home soon, okay?"
