Patrick

After I wake up from yet another slumber Victoria checks my ankle out again. It wasn't swollen but it was sore from not being moved in a really really long time. So she gives me some ankle exercises to do while she made us some breakfast.

And since I was still bed ridden I take the time to look around at her place. It wasn't that much to look at really. It was cleaned as best as it could be and it looked kind of nice. The floors were a little creaky and the walls had some scratches and stains on it, but it wasn't a complete dump. And I really enjoyed my last 20 hours on this couch even though I felt so bad for making her sleep on the floor. This place might be cheap but it felt more like home than my bachelor pad.

Eventually the place starts to smell really good as she finished up breakfast. I hear a door open and see that her dad was up. He walks over and smiles to me once he sees that I'm up.

"Good morning Patrick" he says sitting on the floor next to me since there was no space on the couch or a available seat in here. He grabs the newspaper that was sitting on the table and start to read it. Not even acting phased that a stranger was in his house.

"Good morning..." I trail off.

"Andy" Victoria yells from the kitchen.

"Andy" I say.

"Are you feeling any better" he asks.

"Much better. Thank you both so much for what you've done for me" I say.

"Of course" he replies with a smile.

"How much do I owe you guys" I ask.

"Owe us for what" he questions.

"For letting me stay. For taking care of me and not letting me die out there. For feeding me and getting me warm. For not saying anything to anyone or calling the reporters. For clothing me and letting me crash at your place. Basically for being a drunken mess" I list off.

"There's no price you can put on being a decent human being. This is stuff everyone should do for no reason at all. Kindness without question" he says.

"Kindness without question" I ask.

"It's a principle" Victoria explains. "There doesn't need to be a reason for everything we do, especially the nice stuff. My father believes that the only way to be kind is to do it without a question, you do it because you can and you want to, not because you feel like it or you have to. People often times mix up kindness' and favors. If we we're to be doing you a favor that means there's a reason we did it. But there isn't, we just want to help. Therefore we did you a kindness" she says as she hands me a plate of delicious looking food. I haven't had a home cooked meal since I was home last summer.

"I've never met anyone like you guys. Are you like guardian angels" I ask and Victoria laughs.

"Not at all. We're just a couple people who know what it's like to need help and to never get it" she explains.

"Can I at least have you guys come to a game" I ask.

Tori says "no" at the same time Andy says "yes" and I laugh. He gives her those "Come on" eyes and she lets out a sigh.

"That's kind of you Patrick, thank you for your offer,
but we can't accept. This was a kindness, not a favor" she insists.

"Okay. What if it's not related to the past 24 hours. I just want to take a couple of great people to a game out of the kindness of my heart" I ask and she smiles. She had the most beautiful smile.

"I think that would be okay" she admits.

"Perfect."

We finish up breakfast before she takes me back to my place. She pulls up to the front and I turn to her.
