As soon as we get home from Buffalo we had a game then it was time for the New Years. And like always the Blackhawks host a little party mostly to make sure we don't do anything we're not supposed to, but a little so we can have some fun together outside of the rink. And since our outdoor game this year wasn't the winter classic it meant we had the holiday all to ourselves. It's really important to them that we are happy here and this organization never fails to make it feel that way, especially when it comes to stuff like this. If it weren't for them I probably would have been given up on already. But Im more than happy to be here in one of the best cities in the world on the best team in the world surrounded by the best people in the world.

So I pull on a pair of black slacks and a white dress shirt. I make sure my hair looks nice and shave my face before putting on aftershave and calling it a day. I head out of my room and and into the living room where Victoria was waiting for me. She wasn't one of those girls who took forever to get ready for she was naturally stunning and she's always been on the go. It takes her about 15 minutes for hair and makeup and depending on the day it's about the same for me.

When I finally find her standing by the window looking out of it I stop. I smile to myself as I just take a long look at her. Her long brown hair naturally wavy and her small body covered in a sparkly material for the occasion. Her dress exposes her arms and legs but still leaves enough to the imagination. She could do no wrong, but she was defiantly looking right.

I walk over to her and turn her around so I could get a better look at her. She smiles up at me as I take her in and get a good view. And she was even more beautiful now that I could get a good look at her. I swear this sight never gets old.

"Why are your so freaking pretty" I ask and she giggles.

"Just for you" she claims and I smile.

"Damn. Then I must be doing something right" I insist and she smiles. She stands up on her tippie toes and places a kiss on my lips. I can smell her sweet perfume and I smile big as she lets her lips linger for a while. Eventually we break apart as my eyes flutter open

"Mhmm. Don't do that" I warn.

"Do what" she smirks.

"Be so freaking cute" I claim as she smiles up at me.

"I make no promises" she teases and I smile back at her.

"Good."

We ride over to the bar and easily find our people. We were the only ones here after all. I decide to get a light drink but nothing too heavy. Tori assures me that it's okay to drink some as long as I don't lose a handle. But it was early and no need for the hard stuff yet, so I just settle for a cooler while she drinks her lemonade. I walk around with her under her arm and we enjoy our time. I know this isn't her type of thing, but everyone loves her and it's not really a party if she isn't here.

Eventually the song changes and her eyes get big. She smiles up to me as she grabs my hand.

"Ohhh I love this song. Come dance with me" she insists.

"Since when did you dance" I ask as I let her drag me to the dance floor.

"A few seconds ago" she smirks.

She wraps her arms around my neck before pulling me in close. She runs her fingers through the base of my hairline on my neck making me bite my lip. She starts to sing softly as we slowly dance together.

"Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
They said "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong."

I smile big as I look at her, just admiring her and all her perfect imperfections. We had almost been together for a while year, and so much has changed since we first met. And for the better. I look at her now and can say that we did it. A lot of people thought we couldn't. There was articles and rumors saying that a girl like her would never work with a guy like me. Just a few days before then the headline was about me breaking up with Veronica then it was about how it would never work between us. But now I look at how far we made it and all I can do smile. We weren't just surviving, we were thriving. She was the best nurse around the city and I was one of the best players in the league. We were doing so well and it was because we were doing it together. And that meant everything to me.

"You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night."

"I love you so much" she mentions and I turn my head to the side.

"What makes you say that" I ask as we continue to dance.

"No reason. There's no explanation as to why I feel the way I do. I just know that I love you more than anything, I always have and I always will" she promises.

"I can't believe it's only been almost a year we've been together. It feels like a lifetime" I admit.

"It feels like it" she agrees. "But its just year one out of our forever" she explains and I smile.

"I like the sound of that" I insist.

"Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'
They said "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holdin' on
We're still together still goin' strong

You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)

You're still the one I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night

You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
(You're still the one)
You're still the one I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night

I'm so glad we made it
Look how far we've come my baby."

I spin her around on my finger as she starts to giggle. I swiftly pull her back in before dipping her backwards. Her lips were pulled tighter than they have in a long time and it gave me chills. Knowing that she looks that good because of me is such a privilege to know. I hope it never changes.
