Victoria
As the hawks make their way through the playoffs it was a lot more of what we saw in the regular season. Winning. And I know it meant a lot to Patrick when I came to his games so I made sure I could make it to at least one or two each series. And should they make it to the end, hopefully most of their final series.
So I had on my Patrick Kane jersey he got me back in January and I pull by hair into braided pigtails. I apply what little makeup I owned and spray on perfume. I then grab my dad and we head over to the United Center for some hard nosed hockey.
We meet Patrick's family and my dad goes off with Patrick's Dad. They've met a few times before but this is the first time they actually got to hang out. My dad loved Pat Sr. because he owned a car dealership and my dad loved cars. His dad loved my dad because he loved sports history and a lot of the same teams. It was a natural fit for those two.
I end up sitting in between Erica and Gracie out in the stands. Since Patrick and Jonny were such great friends, it was no wonder their two worlds collided. So we hang out with the adorable little toddler Bryan and watch the game.
"When are you due" I ask Gracie as she softly rubs her stomach. I was impressed she was able to still come to these games being so pregnant.
"Next month. But if you ask me it should have been a while ago" she scoffs.
"I can't wait until she gets here. I love little babies" Erica insists. "I would looove a little niece or nephew" she says looking at me and my eyes go big.
"Woah woah woah. Don't you think we're moving a little fast" I ask.
"Maybe. But there's never a bad time to make our family bigger" she claims.
"Can we at least get married first" I ask.
"Yes" she cheers and I turn to her.
"Wait. That sounds like a proposal" I realize.
"And on behalf of Patrick and the rest of this family I accept" she claims and I laugh.
"Patrick and I have been together for a little over four months. Let's let things fall into place before we start talking about weddings" I insist.
"Can you see yourself marrying him" Gracie questions and I smile.
"Yeah. I wouldn't be here if I didn't" I assure her.
"You want to spend forever with him" she smirks and I laugh.
"I can't imagine my forever being with anyone else" I insist.
"Awww you guys are so cute" Erica coos and I roll my eyes.
"I'm not trying to be cute. I love him a lot and-" I pause. I totally freeze once I realize what I just said.
"Holy shit. That was the first time you said you loved him isn't it" Gracie gasps.
"Well out loud" I admit.
"You've been together for four months and you guys never said that you love each other" Erica questions.
"Nope" I admit. "And we don't need to. I know he loves me and he knows I love him too. But it's hard for him to tell me these things. It's not a guy thing, it's a Patrick thing. He's so emotional, he does everything with some sort of emotion. He doesn't understand what all those feelings mean and it scares him. I don't want to say it because then he will freak out because he didn't say it first or he'll think that I think he only said it because I did" I explain.
"Sometimes I feel like you understand Patrick better than Patrick understands Patrick" Erica explains and I laugh.
"That makes two of us" I agree.
The game ends and the boys pick up another win. With one more they move on to the second round and we play the Red Wings.
After the concourse clears out we all head downstairs to wait for our players. I talk with Gracie and she asks me some questions and I try my best to answer them. I was no psychiatrist, but I did know a lot about human nature so I used that to help her out with whatever she needed. She didn't have problems per say but she was busy and pregnant and didn't haven anyone to talk to, and I was someone.
In the middle of the conversation I feel someone's arms wrap around me and I get lifted off the floor. I let out a yell as they spin me away.
"Patrick" I accuse as he laughs at me. He places me on his shoulder before turning to my dad.
"Hey Andy I'm taking your daughter for a while" Patrick claims.
"Alright. You two have fun" my dad says and I scoff. Well he's no help.
Patrick carries me all the way to the car before he sets me down. He turns to me with the biggest smile on his face and I wanted to be mad at him, I really did, but it was impossible.
"What exactly are your intentions here" I ask.
"I wanted to go to our spot" he claims.
"The bridge" I ask.
"Yeah. The bridge" he assures me.
"I was hoping" I admit.
We hop in his car and he takes us over to the bridge. We climb up to the top and we sit there so we could see the city. I smile as it lights up the sky extra bright. I couldn't help be happy when I was in this city. It was so lifelike, so beautiful and one of a kind. I never wanted to leave.
"Look at this place. Isn't it amazing" I ask.
"That's sounds weird coming from a Detroit girl" he admits and I chuckle.
"Yeah. If my grandparents heard me say that they would not be happy" I admit.
"What do you love most about this city" he wonders.
"You" I say then immediately regret it. I really need to start watching what I'm saying.
"The feeling is mutual" he assures me and I smile.
I turn back to the city and see the buildings lit up red for the Blackhawks. The city had hockey fever and it was contagious. The Blackhawks are everywhere, in stores and restaurants and on the streets. This city loved them.
"What's it like playing here" I ask him.
"It's crazy. There isn't another organization I would rather play in. Our top guys treat us right, if I thought I was having a hard time before I could only imagine what it would be like if I was on another team. There isn't any other people I would rather play with. And there isn't another person I would rather go through it all with than you" he claims. I turn to him and see he was right next to me.
He suddenly leans over and puts his lips on mine. Like our first kiss up there I was feeling incredibly weightless. Like I was flying over the city. I feel him wrap his fingers around my neck as he pulls me closer. Suddenly I remember what makes it so worth it in the end.
Eventually we break apart and I stare into his eyes. I see them sparkle with the city reflecting in them and it give me chills.
"Tori I... I love that you're here with me" he says. I know that's not what he wanted to say but his words still had weight to them.
"I love being here with you too" I reply and he smiles back.
