Patrick

After a long flight we land in Buffalo early Christmas morning. Tori, Andy and I spent Christmas Eve in Chicago celebrating with Jonny and Gracie and their family. We got their kids some toys and Jonny always enjoyed Andy's company, considering he's a old soul too.

After a good time watching movies and singing Christmas carols and eating cookies we packed up the rest of our gifts and head out to New York to meet up with my family.

So I knock on the door of my childhood home as I wait for it to open up. It was pretty cold so I pull Tori into my embrace to keep her warm. She was pretty tired from the early flight here but she woke up a lot once we pulled into the house. Shes been talking about how excited she was for this for the longest time.

Eventually the door opens and I see my mom standing there. She pulls us in and into the warm as we all let out a sigh of relief.

"There's fresh hot chocolate in the kitchen to warm up too" she explains as she takes everyone's jackets.

"Thank god" I sigh. I follow Tori into the kitchen where the rest of my family was gathered around. Like rain into the ocean we easily blend together and get warmed up. My sisters ask Tori a million questions because they act like she's some super rare specimen they've never seen or heard of before. Even though I know they talk almost every day.

I decide to chill with my parents and let the girls catch up. They were all pretty close to Tori and Tori loved the idea of having siblings. She had a field day getting them Christmas presents and gifts for my parents. She actually had a excuse to give for once so of course she was all over that.

"How have things been" my mom wonders and I smile.

"They've been great. Tori and I are doing really good. She loves her job and she comes out to games every chance she gets" I insist.

"It's almost been a year right" my dad asks and I nod.

"A year as of January 9th" I explain and he smiles.

"That's pretty exciting" my dad insists.

"It is. It doesn't even feel like it's been a year. I feel like we've know each other our whole lives. I've never felt so comfortable with someone in my life. She's like another form of me, but like a better one. She listens always and speakers whenever I need to hear it. She reminds me that it's okay to mess up sometimes. I can be myself and make mistakes and my mistakes don't define me. She made sure that I lived myself before I loved her and for that... I am so thankful" I explain.

"Where has she been hiding all your life" my dad teases and I laugh.

"That's what I've been saying."

After we catch up we sit in the living room and hand out gifts. My sisters nearly freak when they see the stuff Tori made for them. She spent all night making them these really cute matching dresses, even made one for herself to match with them. Then she made them these cute little scrap books and nice bracelets with each of their birth stones in it. They were super excited about all of it and it made me smile.

Then Tori turns to me with a huge box almost the size of her and I laugh.

"Did you get me another you to take with me when I'm on the road" I ask as she giggles.

"You wish" she accuses

I open up the box and pull out what's inside. I let out a loud gasp when I see a bag full of brand new golf clubs. And these weren't cheap ones either, I'm talking top of the line putters that the professionals used in the tournaments I always watched.

"Victoria Hope Tyler... what did you do" I nearly scream.

"I know you don't need this, but Christmas isn't about what you need. I heard my dad and you talking about golfing and how much you love to play literally all summer. So I figured to get you something nice and personalized. So the bag is black and red for the Hawks and the inside of it is silver like the Stanley cup. Each putter has "88PK" etched in it like your gloves" she explains.

"This must have cost a fortune" I whisper.

"It took a good chunk of my savings and the rest went to other Christmas gifts" she explains.

"That's your savings Tor" I say.

"I was saving it for my future, and you, you're my future" she claims and I smile.

"Come here" I insist and she laughs at me. I pull her into a huge hug and she happily hugs me back.

"You're the best, you know that right" I ask.

"I try to be" she smiles.

We finish up handing out gifts and I try to figure out how we're getting this all back on the plane home. Tori herself probably got the most stuff between my parents and my sisters. I got her a bunch of cooking things for back home because she spends every second she can in the kitchen. Then I got her some Blackhawks things because she's still wearing that same jersey I got her all that time ago. But her favorite thing that I got her was a painting blown up and put up at home, but there was no way I could bring that with. So I just sent her a picture of it after Jonny got it hung up.

Eventually my grandpa comes over to us as we chill in the kitchen. He turns to Tori who gives him her whole attention. My grandpa loved Tori and Tori lived the stories I should tell about him or he would tell about me. He was obsessed with the person she was and what she did, like a real Kane if you ask me.

We were just about ready for dinner but before we sat down he had something to say. I didn't even know where he was going with this.

"I want you to have this" my Grandpa says as he holds his hand out. He smiles over to Tori as she looks at him in the same way she looked at me. She puts her hand under his and he places something in it. She opens it up and sees a beautiful necklace sitting there. She gasps as she holds it up to her a good look at it.

"Oh wow, this is so beautiful. What is it for" she wonders.

"It's been in our family for generations. My mother wore it and so did my wife. Donna wore it and now I want you to" he explains and my eyes go big.

"Wait, is that great grandmas necklace she wore when she got married" I ask and he smiles.

"The one and only" he assures me.

"Oh wow, that's incredible valuable to you and your family. I can't take this from you" Tori insists.

"I want you to have it" my Grandpa insists.

"Why me" she asks.

"The Kane name is a special one. Whichever girl who should take the name should wear this necklace with pride. Patrick's the only boy in this family and so whoever he marries will wear the necklace for she will carry on the Kane name. Donna and I agreed that this Christmas it would right to give this to you" my grandpa explains.

"This means the world to me. I'll take the best care of it. I promise" she insists.

"I know you will. You've taken great care of Patrick and I know you'll treat this necklace with the same amount of respect" he insists.

"Can I have a hug" Tori asks him and he laughs. He opens up his arms and wraps them around her. I feel my heart skip a beat as I watch this all happen. I know the holidays are filled with special moments, but this one is my new favorite one.
