Percy was out-of-his-mind annoyed at the crazy monkeys. Since they’d opened the door to the bedroom they’d been screaming, jumping on top of them and pretty much causing extreme chaos. Percy was still in pain, and the monkeys weren’t exactly helping his headache.

“We have to trap them!” Annabeth yelled over the noise. “I don’t know what they are, but they need to be contained!”

“Why can’t we just kill- Right.” Percy said, as another appeared in the place of one he’d just slashed through. Monster dust was going everywhere.

“Well we can’t exactly trap them in the bedroom! We need that! Um… we can put them in the dining room. We can live without that.” Percy said, ducking as one of the snapped out its claws and jumped towards him.

“That might work! They’re swarming towards us so just try to head that way!” Annabeth said, stabbing one of the more vicious monkeys.

Percy worked his way towards Annabeth, but the monkeys were forming a line to keep that from happening. So, even though he didn’t want to, he just kept moving towards the dining room.

That is, until she cried out when one of the nasty little things clawed her arm.

“ANNABETH!” Percy yelled, using newfound force to break the monkey’s barrier.

They were at the door, and Percy opened it. “Stay here!” Percy yelled.

“But-” Annabeth started, but Percy was already inside. They followed him, of course. He closed the other door and locked it, and ran out faster than he’d ever ran before. But one of the little creeps still  got his leg.

Together, very injured, Percy and Annabeth limped together back to the bedroom and collapsed. But, before they could even think of being relieved, of course Gaia had to interfere for the millionth time.

He heard a soft chuckle from the distance. “I hope you like my little pets. They’ll disappear now.” And as she said it, he noise vanished. “Just to alert you, a very specific giant would like s me quality time with you, Mr. Jackson. As for you girl... well, Arachne may be in Tartarus, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be able to have some fun with you, too.”

Annabeth winced. Percy could tell that even the thought of going near Tartarus again scared the jujubes out of her. “Where are you taking her?” Percy demanded, pointing Ripide at empty air.

“Oh, but my dears, that’s a mystery.” He could almost feel Gaia smirking.

“You’ll never get away with this.” Annabeth whispered.

"But, don't you see, I already have. Your Leo is dead, Frank and Hazel soon to die, and Jason and Piper on a death mission. I wish I could say that when I rule the world I could spare you, but your blood must be spilled on the sacred stones to awake me. I will rule, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!"

Out of the silence that followed, Percy whistled. "Wow. Quite some plan, that is."

"Do not sass me, Mr. Jackson. Now you wait."

And the voice disappeared.

"What now, Percy? They'll separate us. We can't let that happen." Annabeth said.

"We-we won't let them do that. We'll hold on, and we'll never let go." Percy said, taking her hand.

It was then that their intertwined hands started to burn.
