"So they really think this is it? They think you'll be able to stay home?" Garroth asks me curiously with a smile.
"Yeah, they do," I answer, sharing his smile. "I really hope they're right."
"Oh, sure they are! Your heart is stable, right?" He asks. I nod. "Then there's no reason for you to go back to the hospital! You just need to trust their answer."
"That's kind of difficult to do. With my condition, there's no telling what could happen," I say as the corners of my mouth droop slightly.
"Don't say that! Have you had any problems since you got out?"
I process his question. All the other times I was released too early, the problems came back rather quickly. It's been a couple days, and I haven't had any problems.
"No... no, I haven't," I reply. Garroth smiles.
"Exactly!" He says. My smile returns as I realize something.
Maybe he's right.
"Whatcha guys talking about?" Laurence asks as he strolls into the kitchen. Garroth and I look back at him in unison.
"Why do you wanna know?" Garroth asks playfully.
"What?" Laurence asks. He walks over to us and sits next to Garroth at the table, looking at us expectantly. "Oh come on! Are we talking about middle school crushes or something?" He asks with a smile. I stifle a laugh, while Garroth snorts.
"No, but on that note!" Garroth says as he looks at me. "Are you excited to see Aaron? You just have like a week, right?" He asks. I smile big.
"Yeah! 5 days, actually," I answer. Both Garroth and Laurence smile a little. I raise an eyebrow.
"Why are you two so interested in him all the sudden?" I ask. They look at eachother before meeting my gaze again.
"Well, we've realized how important he is to everyone here. It's been pretty awful without him. His trip seems to have affected everyone," Laurence says, to my surprise.
"I like this new side of you two!" I exclaim. They both let out a little chuckle.
"Well, we figured we were just adding to all of the stress by being so childish. So, after thinking about it for a while, we realized that he's not as bad as we thought," Garroth adds. I cross my arms.
"Yeah, you guys decided to hate him just because I fell in love with him. It's not all his fault!" I say strictly. Garroth and Laurence share an expression of guilt.
"We know. But we've realized how terrible we were. And we're sorry about all of that," Laurence says.
"Don't apologize to me," I say. Garroth and Laurence give me a confused look. "Apologize to Aaron."
They look at eachother.
"Um..." Garroth starts in a high voice. They both look back at me. "Are sure he won't pound us into smitherines?" He asks.
"I don't know. Depends on how he's feeling that day," I tease. Garroth and Laurence swallow hard. I cover my mouth to stifle back a laugh.
"Oh my... you two really need to get to know him better," I say as my laughter becomes too much to hold back. "I'm kidding! He's really sweet, I promise. He'll understand."
"Really?" They ask in unison.
"Well, yeah! Why do you think my mom loves him so much?" I ask. "He actually had to go through the same thing in highschool."
This peaks their attention.
"What?" Garroth asks. I nod.
"Yeah! He's been fighting for me since highschool! There was always something in the way. Either my mom, or another boy, whatever could've gotten in the way, got in the way," I explain.
