I suppose the biggest incident in October was the Halloween Party.
We were having a costume masque in the upper parlor. Luke dressed as the devil. In a red silk suit, shirt and black tie. He had horns on his head and a pitchfork in hand. My costume was as a bat. A long sleeved black leotard and black tights with a harness that had stuffed bat wings. A pair of my old black Victorian boots. My blonde hair was covered with a hood that had pointed ears sewn onto it. My make up consisted of black koal around my eyes and black lipstick.
Phillip and Carol came both dressed up like golfers.. O'Brien came dressed in a Irish kilt. I saw Marco in a black evening gown, high-heeled black shoes and stockings. He wore a black wig. Looking like an old matron trying to imitate a younger style. Antonio came in desert khaki with a woman dressed like Cleopatra. Thane had come dressed in a black suit with a simple white hand mask. He brought a lovely young woman of color dressed in an evening gown and carrying a similar white mask in her hand. It had a certain sophistication to it.
There were others I didn't know. Some who came into the house didn't have costumes. These strangers began to become rowdy. Harassing our actual guests, abusing the furniture, and otherwise being a nuisance.
I found Henry and had some of them ejected forcefully. After a couple had been given the bum rush the others fell more in line. Cleopatra on the other hand became vocal in her opinion that I was a bitch to throw out some of her friends.
Henry said he couldn't throw out Antonio's woman. I on the other hand had no such qualms about slapping her face after she called me Luke's tramp. I slapped the woman hard enough to knock her to the floor. Antonio did not rush to her defense. Possibly because O'Brien blocked his path. As the woman picked herself off the floor. She held her jaw. Both her lips split from the blow.
"Get out! No quiff is going to insult me in my home." I told her.
Antonio quickly gathered up his date and left the party. I could tell he was angry that I knocked her down. I'm sure it embarrassed him. I doubted he cared if she had been humiliated. Marco had actually clapped when I knocked Cleopatra down. He stood there just slowly clapping his hands. All of us ignored Cleopatra for a moment, to stare at him.
Henry walked up behind me. "Not so good." He whispered in my ear. "Antonio could care less about that quiff, but it was his date and you hit her."
"I'll handle him." I said. "If it's necessary."
Carol and Phillip wasn't in sight most of the party. I think Luke had loaned them a guest room to pet in. Carol and Phillip may not get much time together to do something like that. Carol spent a great deal of her time caring for Mother who hadn't been feeling well lately. Of course the two of them had to be seen now and then, one couldn't be too indiscreet. They both missed the scene with Cleopatra.
As the jazz band began to play again, after the incident with Cleopatra, I decided that I'd take a walk out by the pool. Luke came with me. I looked back at the house with the party still going on. I could hear the jazz coming from the house.
I have taken to swimming in the pool every day. In the water I don't feel as clumsy. I would swim until my muscles ached. I found I had more stamina for daily chores and sex itself. I had more energy during the day after a swim. Of course, Sara disapproved of my swim wear. It was too tight, too thin. After all what if the neighbors saw me.
"There are seven foot bushes surrounding the back lawn." I reminded her.
As I stood by the pool in my leotards and tights that covered me, but accented my every inch of my body. Luke wrapped his arms around me.
"I'll have to smooth this incident over." Luke said.
"I'm sorry, but as hostess, I had to do something. The party was out of control. I didn't know those people, but they destroyed some of that furniture. They were rude to me and other guests." I said. "I am not sorry about smacking Cleopatra. I enjoyed that."
"Unfortunately that is going to be the hardest part to smooth over. Those people you threw out were uninvited guests who crashed the party for the fun of it. They were of no consequence. Antonio's Cleopatra won't cause trouble."
"Antonio will." I said. "I know. Henry told me."
"Antonio won't forget this incident. He's a sly one though. He'll wait for the best time and place to find a way to hurt us both. I want you to be very careful. Stay close to the house and servants. If you must go out make sure Henry stays with you at all times." Luke said.
"Henry isn't just a chauffeur is he?" I said.
"No, he's not. He used to be one of my enforcers. He's tough as nails. He will keep you safe."
"He doesn't seem too old to or out of shape, why is he acting as your Chauffeur?" Henry was big, impressive and the fact that he was around fifty made him appear more dangerous. You might say seasoned. He would make a good enforcer.
"He doesn't have the heart for it." Luke said. "Henry has no problem hurting someone who is going to hurt him or someone he wants to protect. He doesn't like to hurt people who aren't out to hurt him. Most people an enforcer has to intimidate or hurt are violent. Lazy, selfish, dishonest. Yes. Not often violent. You have to be a sort of bully, which Henry isn't."
A few days later I came into the kitchen. Sara keeps cookies for me in a jar. I tend to snack on cookies when I'm working on a problem. Today the problem was my reluctance to empty the pool. It would be getting too cold to swim, even with the heater in the pool. I had grown used to swimming in it, so I wasn't keen on emptying it.
Normally I have milk or coffee with the cookies. I had put the cookie jar on the table under the window. I grabbed milk from the refrigerator. As I approached the table my heel turned outwards and I stumbled. Dropping the bottle of milk. Grabbed the table to keep from falling and I managed to knock off the cookie jar as well.
When my heel turned it twisted my ankle. I barely managed to keep on my feet, but my ankle hurt. Luke came into the kitchen from his office where he must have heard the glass bottle and ceramic jar crash to the floor.
"Child, I've never seen a person so clumsy." Sara blurted out.
"What the hell is going on." Luke stood in the doorway. I stood there surrounded by glass and cookies, covered in milk. "You little idiot, what did you do!?"
"I am not an idiot." I said. "I came in for something to snack on. I dropped the cookie jar, that's all."
"Miss Ellen's been worried about her Mother, Mr. Luke." Sara came to my defense. My Mother hasn't been feeling well, and I have been a little worried about it. "She must have been distracted."
"My dizzy little princess. The next time you want milk and cookies you have Clara or one of those other maids bring it to you." Luke said. "You could have been hurt."
"Yes, my prince." I said; "I think that I can get milk and cookies without any further disasters though."
"Go get cleaned up. Or do you need me to carry you up the stairs to make sure you don't trip over your own feet and fall down the staircase." Luke said.
"I think I turned my ankle. I might be too traumatized to make it up those stairs by myself, you better carry me." I said. "I really should clean up that mess though."
Luke picked me up. "You'd most likely cut up your fingers. One of the maids can do it." Luke told me.
Why walk up dangerous stairs when someone is willing to carry you? It's much more fun. Beside's my twisted ankle did hurt. I realized at that moment that I had adapted to my role as a woman. Childhood seemed like a distant memory. Allen Cross was surely dead.
