Four

"Leave her alone!" I yell 

I shoot up out of my bed, the Ultima blade already in my hand and look around the grey walls. I sigh as I sit back down, running my hands through my hair. 

"I need to stop thinking about her. She won't hesitate to kill me now." I whisper 

"Noct?" I hear a voice whisper 

"Get out of my head!" I yell 

"Come outside you dumbass. I need to talk to you." The voice says 

"Wait, Gene?" I ask as I stand up and head outside of the ship 

I walk out and see a cloaked figure standing a few feet away from the ship. 

"What are you doing here? I thought you didn't want anything to do with me." I start 

"That is true. I don't want anything to do with you anymore." She says, taking her hood off, letting her dark hair fall out "But I want to understand why you really left." 

"I told you why I left," I say 

"Don't you dare try to lie to me Noct." She says "I know the reason isn't because of the boys and them not 'caring'." 

I watch as she goes to takes a step closer, but decides not to. 

"Fine! It's because I can't do this anymore. All that responsibility on my shoulders!" I yell "Then having to leave you for Luna, I couldn't do it! She's like a sister to me." 

"Noct, we were there to help you! Why do you think we all agreed to this!" She snaps "That wasn't your choice. We have to do what is needed for this kingdom." 

I stare at her, expressing my shock as she lets her emotions get the best of her. 

"I was ready to let you go to help this kingdom." She cries "Yet, you ripped that out of my hands and decided to let Ardyn win before the hell even started." 

I look at her and go to take a step towards her, watching as she shakes her head, stepping back away from me. 

"Gene, I'm sorry." I whisper "I didn't realize that you were willing to do that." 

"I just wanted Insomnia to be safe from them." She says "So my dad didn't have to fight anymore. There wasn't a chance I would lose all of you guys to fighting." 

I look at my feet, swallowing the lump in my throat. 

"Instead, you gave up!" She yells "Now, our fathers died for no goddamn reason. Think about that Noct! I didn't even get to say a proper goodbye to my father." 

She looks at the ground as her tears fall onto her cheeks. 

"I didn't get to tell him I was happy. I only told him that I hated our destiny." 

"Look, I'm sorry! Okay?!" I yell 

She looks at me, pursing her lips.

"I should go." She says 

"Gene, please don't," I say, going to grab her hand 

"Don't try to stop me Noct." She says, looking back at me one more time before starting to walk away 

I watch as she throws her hood back on, tucking her hair under it. She makes sure it's covering anything that could identify her, then running off into the night.

"So I see you had a late night last night my dear prince," Ardyn says, walking into the room 

"Yeah, I did." I start "Thought I saw Gene or something." 

"Oh is that it?" He chuckles 

"Yeah, I don't know what is going on in my mind," I say 

"It happens to the best of us. Especially after we just leave those we might claim to love." He says, a smirk showing up on his face

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I hiss 

"You'll figure it out as you start to learn more from being here with us." He says

"You did what?!" Gladio yells 

"I found him and I confronted him." I say "Is that so wrong that I wanted to understand why he left those he loves?" 

"Are you insane? What if they had found you?" Ignis says, rubbing his temples 

"Calm down guys. I'm still here, am I not?" I say 

"Please don't use that against us," Gladio says 

"Well if I need to get me out of a lecture, I will," I say, leaning against the railing

"Look, I'm sorry that we went off on you." Ignis starts "But you need to understand that you going out like that was really risky." 

"I know Ig, but I had too. I couldn't just sit around being pissed off at him when I knew he was lying about why he really left us." I say "Because it isn't the reason you would think it is." 

"Why did he really leave?" Prompto asks

"Because he wasn't ready to give me up," I whisper
