Hank had stopped the car by the harbor. Connor walked out of the car and he saw Hank sitting on a bench. It was silently snowing. There was no one else around them. It was late. Connor found a magazine left on a bench.
Market Predicts War.
He processed the information in his memory blinking a few times. That's what had drawn Andry's attention on the TV. Everybody predicted an upcoming war between humans. The entire human history was filled with wars, he wasn't surprised.
Connor watched Hank drinking as he looked at the other side of the harbor sitting on the bench. Connor crossed his hands trying to figure out what Andry's been hiding.
"Nice view, huh?" Hank asked interrupting his thoughts. "I used to come here a lot before..." and he didn't complete the sentence.
"Can I ask you a personal question, Lieutenant?" Connor asked.
"Do all androids ask so many personal questions or is it just you?" Hank asked sarcastically and annoyed.
"I saw a photo of a child on your kitchen table..." Connor said "...it was your son, right?"
Hank nodded and he looked down "Yeah, his name was Cole," he said.
"Before what?" Connor asked.
"Before..." Hank tried to say and he hesitated. "Before nothing,"
Connor chose to change the subject "We're not making any progress in this investigation. The deviants have nothing in common. They're all different models, produced different times, in different places. What they have in common is this obsession with rA9. It's almost some kind of... myth," Connor said.
"Androids have started believing in a God of theirs," Hank said "Looks like your girlfriend will have something to do with it,"
Connor started replaying the facts in his memory "The Traci said 'You're her' I can't figure out what she meant," he hated when he couldn't figure out something.
"Looks like Dr. Kamski is something more than what we know," Hank said taking another sip from the whiskey in the bottle. "What about you Connor?" the old man asked and he woke up walking towards him "You look human, you sound human, but what are you really?"
"I'm whatever you want me to be, Lieutenant. Your partner, your buddy to drink with... or just a machine designed to accomplish a task," Connor said.
"You could've shot those two girls but you didn't," Hank said "I don't think that's because Andry asked you to,"
"I..." Connor tried to say but he hesitated "...I thought it was best to listen to someone as highly ranked as Dr. Kamski,"
Hank pulled his gun out targeting Connor's forehead "I could kill you right now. Would Andry get upset about losing you?" Hank asked.
Connor's LED snapped between yellow and red. He didn't want to die. Not at least before he'd see her again. But then again, he knew that Hank wouldn't shoot him.
"Humans always have trouble dealing with loss. Andry does not look at me as if I am just a machine-" Connor tried to say and the old man cut him.
"Are you afraid to die?" Hank asked.
"I certainly find it regrettable to be... interrupted from our investigation before..." Connor tried to continue "...before... seeing her again,"
Hank pulled the gun down and he turned around to leave.
"Where are you going?" Connor asked.
"To get drunker. I need to think,"
