Tony Stark woke up tied to a chair. Not any chair, but one of his own dining room table chairs. Adrenaline and fear coursed through his system. He was in a dark room that he slowly realized was his own bedroom.
"JARVIS?" Tony called.
"Yes, Mr. Stark?" the AI responded.
"Call Y/N up here immediately."
"Right away sir." Tony waited a few tense minutes. Then the door swung open, and there was Y/N.
"Oh, thank god Y/N, you're here." He breathed. "I woke up tied to this chair and... Just untie me and I'll check the security tapes." Y/N circled behind them, seemingly in no hurry. Stark frowned. This was unlike Y/N.
Then the bomb dropped.
"I'm sorry, but I can't do that."
"Wait, what?" He craned his neck to see behind him, only to look straight into the barrel of a pistol.
"I've been sent here to kill you, but I have no time to waste. Any last words, Stark?" Tony took a deep, shuddering breath. Had all those months of their relationship gone down the drain? Had all of it been in some twisted scheme to have him dead?
"Did you ever care for me at all?" He choked out.
"You were my mission." Y/N circled back to Tony's front, hooked a finger under his chin and reeled him in for a kiss, chaste and sweet. "I would have done anything to have you."
"That's not what I meant."
"It's all that matters."
Maybe that answered the question, but he hated the lump in his throat, the fact that he had to ask still. "And now?"
