Natasha had worked so hard for so long for this moment. She had them. Y/N Y/L/N. Sitting, tied to a chair right in front of her. Ignore it. She told herself. This infatuation is unhealthy. Y/N doesn't care about you, they don't care for anyone. Natasha had been chosen to torture information out of Y/N, then to kill them. She had used her Red Room training. She played at love. She tried to make Y/N feel something for her, but in the process, she fell hard for the villain she was supposed to kill.
Y/N, on the other hand, had never doubted that something was off about Natasha Romanoff from the start, but they were convinced that it was just their paranoid mind. I mean, after all, hijacking one of the most powerful corporations in the United States while killing a few hundred people in the process was not the way to live the most peacefully with the clearest mind. But now, they were tied to a chair, staring at the woman they had come to love. They had lost their confidence hours ago, maybe even days. They didn't know how long they had been under the bright fluorescent light.
"You don't need to do this." Finally, the self assured expression had vanished from Y/N's face at the bright blue energy weapon at their throat. It gave Natasha no satisfaction. "I love you."
It was a lie, she knew it was a lie. A fun house mirror twisting up her own desires and giving them back as shiny as the executioner's axe - but god, it sounded so real. Genuine. A flawless act that didn't remotely change what they had to do. Natasha's hand trembled. "Stop talking." She pressed the baton into Y/N's throat a little harder, sending a shock through their veins.
Y/N flinched and it broke their heart just a little bit more.
