Chapter 4

Rei cheerily talked on and on to Julia after Jace told him about the talk he had with Mr. Finn. Nate and Raina happened to also be there. Nate was searching through Rei's bookshelves and Raina sat on the floor next to Julia.

"Jace we actually miss you. All of a sudden you're just put of the picture." Raina said.

Jace used to always be with the three of them, but when the pressure of being beta grew, he just spent less time with his friends.

"Well, I am the future beta." Jace sighed.

"It's okay. We understand." Nate sat on Rei's bed reading one of Rei's many manga. "Rei, this one is boring. Do you have anything better?"

"Ah, Nate, don't criticize my picks." Rei said then went back to telling Julia each of their names again for the twentieth time.

"Hey, do you guys ever wonder where our mates are?" Raina asked.

Rei stopped talking and looked off into space. everything seemed to get quiet and Julia's wagging tail slowly came to a stop. Julia walked over to Jace and rubbed her head on his shoulder.

'Jace.' A voice said in Jace's mind. it was a female and it didn't sound like anyone he already knew.

'Julia?' he tried the mate mind link.

'Julia...'

"This is progress!" Jace shouted.

"What is?" Nate asked.

"I'm getting a response from her through the mate mind link."

"Ah! Really?" Rei's eyes lit up again and he smiled. "That's good."

"At this rate Julia and I will become close sisters in no time at all. Right Julia?" She walked over and gave Julia a hug.

Julia's tail began to wag again. For these past few days, she's been feeling a desire to be like Jace who could turn his form and like everyone else she's seen who appear to be humans but had a similar scent as Jace.

She wanted to impress everyone even more, so she rubbed Raina with her nose and told Jace, 'Raina'

"She knows what we call you, Raina." Jace said and smiled.

"I've been telling her our names all this time!" Rei got excited and crawled forward. Then pointed at Nate, "What's that otaku's name over there?"

'Nate...' Julia told Jace and he let them know what she had said.

"How do we know you're telling the truth?" Raina asked. "I'm sorry, I just say bad stuff at the wrong time..."

"Don't worry about it. Sometimes it's good that you do that, other wise no one would and we'd never know answers to the hurtful questions." Rei said.

"Haha, thanks Rei. Jace it's not that I doubt it. But I just say what comes to mind." Raina was feeling extra guilty for the earlier and later questions she had asked.

"It's okay. We all know it's just how you are, and we all accept you for it. And I know you guys believe me too." Jace reassured Raina that neither he, Nate, nor Rei minded her bluntness. Then they all laughed.

Some things never change and they hoped that the moments they had like these were one of those things. Rei continued telling Julia the names of things and she would recite them to Jace. She was a quick learner and it was all thanks to the human brain every wolf lack, but werewolves have.

Later in Jace's room, Julia learned more name and faces from photos that Jace had. After he showed pictures to Julia, he decided to check if he had even more. He checked on his desk and found that he had not given the paperwork he had finished to Trip.

"I'd better give these to him before I forget completely. I'll be right back." he left leaving the door open.

Jace knocked on Trip's door. He knocked more times before Trip actually opened. Out of curiosity, Julia walked over to listen to what they were saying to each other.

"Thanks, I'll be doing them from now on." Trip looked down at Julia and saw that she was looking into his dark room.

"Are you still watching after her?" Jace asked.

"Yea." Trip closed the door as his computer screen lit up and pictures of a girl were all over the place.

'Jace?' Julia said in his mind.

Jace walked back to his room followed by Julia who was even more curious than before about Trip. Jace was the only one who knew about Trip's room. If he and Trip didn't seem close now, the truth is that they used to be really close. Julia pushed the door closed with her nose after both of them were in.

"It's complicated but long story short, that girl you saw on his wall is his mate and she isn't werewolf."

'Trip, mate isn't werewolf?'

"Yea Trip's mate is not werewolf."

'You is werewolf, Trip is werewolf. Raina, Rei, Nate is. I wolf?'

"No, you are werewolf too. You can turn human too one day."

'Human?'

"Yea human." Jake then decided to try something out with the mate mind link.

He 'spoke' an image of humans in her head. He didn't know if it worked but Julia seemed to react to it.

'Jace is human?'

"Haha. No werewolves are humans who could turn to wolves, so that doesn't make us human at all." Jace laughed and Julia cocked her head to the side.

'What Jace?'

"It's called laughing." Jace could tell what Julia was wondering and she's been wondering a lot for some time now. "We laugh when we are happy or when something is funny."

There were still a lot that Jace had to teach Julia and he didn't mind because she was picking up words and their meanings pretty quick. It didn't matter to him how long it was going to take, because he knew he would love every step of the way.

The next day, Jace had to print out papers that the alpha sent to his email. Ever since Trip locked himself up in his room two years ago, the alpha had depended more on Jace because it seemed like he was the only one Trip could and would open up to.

He handed them over to Trip on his way out with Julia. They were going to the city so that Jace could teach her even more ways of human language
