"No." I said, scowling. Max pouted, his hazel eyes wide.
"Come on, Princess." he pleaded.
"Max, I said no." I crossed my arms. Max rolled his eyes.
"But then we're gonna lose!" he protested.
"Max, no means - HOLY CRAP LET GO OF ME!"
I didn't mean to yelp quite so loud. It's just, he had wrapped his arms around my waist and hoisted me up a few inches off the ground.
And the tingles that spread across my body and butterflies exploding in my stomach as I inhaled his smell of rain was ... Unexpected.
I repeat.
This was so not going to end well.
"Jeez, how much to you weigh, Hulk?" he whined.
"I thought we agreed for you not to call me Hulk!" I tried my best to glare at him. Kind of hard when he had his arms around my waist and I had to wrap my legs around his waist to balance myself.
"So you'd still rather me call you Princess?
"No, I hate when you call me that stupid nickname." I scowled, though I knew he couldn't see it.
"Is that so, Hulk?"
"Stop calling me that!" I snapped. I was incredibly tempted to, ah, make him put me down, but I suspected that doing that would cause him to be more than a little suspicious of me. I doubted a normal seventeen year old girl could do what I was contemplating doing in my head.
"For Lord's sake call me Princess! Call me whatever the hell you want!
Anything but Hulk. Seriously." I gave in.There was something infuriating about him calling me Hulk.
It implied that I was short tempered and quick to use my fists, and that I was unattractive.
And for some reason, I hated Max thinking I was unattractive.
"Wow. Never thought I'd see the day you beg me to call you Princess."
"Shut up and put me down!" I slapped his shoulder.
He chuckled, stepping closer to the edge.
"Live a little, Princess." he whispered through my hair as he strode closer and closer to the edge.
"Max, don't you dare - " Forget keeping my cover, I was going to make him put me down.
He jumped before I could do anything.
He had his arms still firmly around my waist, laughing into my hair. Twisting my face around, I pressed my lips to his ear. He stopped laughing for a second.
"FUCK YOU MAX TRELLEEE!" I screeched right in his ear and he laughed again as I braced myself for impact.
Confused?
Okay, let's rewind a little.
Two days had passed since the flashbacks and things were more or less back to normal.
Meaning Max was annoying the hell out of me and I was ready to tear my hair out our or punch him in the face.
Possibly both.
No, scratch that, most definitely both.
Anyway, that particular day Abby and Sam challenged Max and I to a dare challenge.
Oh, Grandma had to leave the beach for a few days to take care of some stuff and she didn't trust us enough to run the cafe so we had our mornings to ourselves.
