Abby and Grandma came home the next day, as the storm got a lot better that night. You know, that night when I decided that my crush was a possible murderer.

Max stayed with me because he thought I was still shaken up from the performance I had put on that night. I guess I was in a way, but not for the reason he thought.

When Abby and Grandma let themselves in, Max grinned, threw an annoying comment my way, then walked himself out, deciding it was about time he got himself home before the storm got worse again.

"Spill." Abby tossed her bag on her bed before plonking herself down on mine.

So I sat myself down next to her and explained everything. Again, we tried contacting the agency but the signal was still bad and Boss understood about three words out of the entire conversation we attempted to have.

"So what do we do about Max?" I asked nervously. I had been completely honest, swallowing my pride and told her about my crush. I told her because it might be important to the whole situation, considering having a crush on one of our suspects might make me a little biased.

"You know that saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. We pretend to not know a thing and keep an eye on him."

"That might end up with one of us having a knife in our backs you know." I frowned. Staying close to Max didn't exactly seem like the best idea.

For me especially. I didn't need this crush to develop further.

Abby shrugged.

"For all we know, he might not even be the one who did it. We don't have to cut your crush out of your life, we just have to stay on our toes." She grinned. Considering my best friend usually hardly ever cared about usual 'girly' things, she sure cared about my love life.

I think it was mostly because she thought that getting a boyfriend who didn't stab me in the back would help me open up and trust people more.

As for whether I still trusted Max Trelle ... probably not. I mean, it wasn't exactly safe to trust him until we were able to rule him out for good.

The next day was still raining, but not pouring any more like the last few days. Abby and I went back to working at the cafe but lifeguard shifts were still cancelled.

I noticed that there had been a noticeable decrease in customers, but I guess that was to be expected.

"I heard that the little girl was found in an abandoned cave, gave the poor soul who found her a dreadful fright." I paused as I approached the table two women were sitting in, who seemed to be deep in conversation.

"Marissa? So they found her?"

That name sounded strangely familiar ...

"Yes, but she died from God knows what when she reached the hospital."

For some reason, I didn't want to hear any more.

"Here are your drinks." I forced a smile, placing the two coffees in front of the two women who smiled back.

"Be careful, dearie." One woman said, and the other nodded. I cocked my head to the side.

"What do you mean, ma'am?" I asked, tucking my tray under my arm.

"Nothing sweetheart, it's just a lot of people are getting hurt these days." The lady frowned, shaking her head. I gave a nod and walked back to the kitchen, distracted.

The bell on the door rang, and I turned to find Max, alone. That was strange, he always showed up here with his friends.

"I need to talk to you." Max grabbed my arm. I yanked it away from him, glaring. I know that was uncalled for but I somehow managed to convince myself that being pissed at Max would help me get over the crush.
