"Oh would you look at that, she's coming around." A voice said from somewhere to my right.
My eyes slowly blinked open and I had to rapidly blink away the haziness, a slow throb in the back of my head.
I was currently tied to a tree, my arms grazing the rough bark and my shoulders aching from behind tied back for too long. I craned my neck around, searching for Abby.
"Over here doofus." I could practically hear the eye roll in her voice that came from my left.
"Oh." I glanced over to find her grouchy and bored. "Thanks a lot for helping me fight him, by the way."
"Dude I was on the phone with backup!"
"You couldn't have phoned them before we were jumped?"
"It's not like you ever think to call backup, no, that's always on me." Abby shot back.
"Where even are we." I scowl, pulling at my binds.
"A quick look around would be enough to confirm we're in the middle of the woods." Abby sighed.
"Oh. Well, then, where's Max-"
"In front of you."
I jumped, jarring my body horribly. My stomach wound throbbed, my vision was still slightly blurry from being hit over the head with a rock or something, and I really was ready to kill.
"What's the point of all this?" I demanded. Despite how dark it was - the storm was still raging around us - I could clearly make out Max's face, and I can't deny that it still hurt me inside whenever I looked at what he truly was.
"It's complicated really, having a grudge against the spy agency, personal revenge against my dear brother,"
"Well what does that have to do with us?" I scowl.
"You're trying to catch me." Max deadpanned.
"Oh, right." I nodded. "So what now?"
"I'm going to torture you, and then kill you." Max grinned manically, a strange crazy glint in his eye I'd never seen before.
"Oh no you're fucking not."
Suddenly, a huge gust of wind rammed straight into Max, sending him tumbling over his feet. He got to his feet, a smirk spreading across his face. I turned my neck in an attempt to catch a glimpse of our savior.
Max was standing there, glaring at ... Max?
"What the heck." I heard Abby mutter.
"Exactly." I whispered back.
"You're using my name now?" Second Max demanded, his watch glowing in the dark as a mini tornado raged around him, hair rippling wildly in the mess of it all.
"Shame, I almost had them convinced." First Max replied, stretching his fingers lightly. I hadn't noticed this before when I was on the receiving end of his powers, but instead of a watch, what glowed were a pair of earrings.
"That's him!" I shouted over to Abby, jerking my chin in Second Max, um, real Max's direction excitedly. He was saving us. That meant he wasn't actually evil, right? i had no idea what the hell was going on but the one thing I could focus on was the fact that Max hadn't betrayed me. Abby nodded.
"Yeah, he's the one who triggers the mind link!" She answered, further convincing me that this Max who was fighting fake Max was the Max I knew, and he was still on our side.
"Abby we have to get these off." I yelled over the noise. The two were locked in one heck of a confusing battle. Both of their powers seemed to involve the weather, and the sky churned above us in a shade that now had darkened to pitch black. Mini tornados were clashing, wind was howling, and if one lifted one off his feet using wind, the other would use their own wind to steady themselves.
