After a long argument with Grandma and Abby which I ended up losing, I was forced to stay inside and get some rest, at least for the cafe shift.
I honestly didn't mind too much once I'd stopped pouting about losing the argument. I lounged around with my hair in a messy bun, shovelling pizza and ice cream in my mouth and for once getting to choose what to watch on Netflix.
That is, until my lifeguard shift started. As much as I loved being lazy, I felt restless and felt the need for some physical activity - which is why I jumped in the shower with a little too much eagerness, slipped, and you guessed it, landed hard on my backside.
This time hurt more than the others, the impact jarred my entire body. Oh, well, at least I hadn't fallen on my head.
Once I was done showering, I reached out to grab a towel, only to catch a glimpse of my back in the bathroom mirror, and all the scars that covered it. Some of them had come from my years as an agent but most of them had come from him.
I ususally used agency concealer to cover it up, as agency concealer was completely waterproof and only came off when a special cream thingy was rubbed in. However, I had never actually applied or taken it off myself. I always got my parents or Abby to do it for me since I usually got horrible flashbacks whenever I saw anything associated with that asshole.
Oh and speak of the devil, here they came.
I leaned against the cold tiles of the bathroom as my vision grew foggy, clutching my head as a throbbing pain appeared before my eyes.
"Hey sweetheart." Mason said, interwining our fingers.
"Yeah Mason?" I answered, leaning my head on his shoulder. We were sitting together in his car after a date, watching the stars. He sighed, a smile of content on his face.
"What?" I asked. Mason blushed a little, trying to hide behind his blonde hair and failing.
"I just love the way you say my name." He paused, frowning. "Okay that sounded kinda weird and maybe a little creepy."
I giggled, shaking my head. "Don't worry, it was cute."
"Shan?" he said, turning toward me properly. I mirrored him, and he leaned forward until our foreheads were touching.
"Hmm?" I said.
"I think I love you." he whispered. My heart leaped with joy, my stomach erupting with a million butterflies.
"Guess what?" I smiled.
"What?" Mason asked, a little nervously.
"I think I love you too."
The scene shifted.
"Stop this, this isn't you. You told me -" I was trembling slightly, tied up against a pillar.
"If you believed any of that crap I said then you must be more stupid than I thought." He spat, laughing coldly. His eyes were cold and empty, and the love that had once filled them while looking at me was absent.
He leaned closer to me, making me try my hardest not to flinch, and brushed his knife slowly against my lip, drawing a thin line of blood.
"Mason." I tried again, trying to keep my voice from sounding too desperate.
Maybe, just maybe, I could break him from the spell he was clearly under. This wasn't my Mason, my Mason would never do this to me.
"Guess what, sweetheart?" He said 'sweetheart 'mockingly, and I pressed my lips together at his cold tone.
