I woke up in my bed with a splitting headache.
Abby walked in, and when she found me awake, she came over and started scolding me.
"Okay what the hell happened?" I cut her off before she could say much.
"Well you basically went ape on Max when he was trying to untie a screaming child from a tree. You tried to attack him so I knocked you out before you could do something stupid and reveal us as agents."
"Sorry Ab." I said as Abby rolled her eyes at my lame apology.
"Apology accepted. Max wants to talk to you actually so you better explain things to him so he doesn't suspect anything." Abby warned before getting up and leaving. I nodded and waited until Max walked in.
"Are you okay?" Max asked as soon as he was next to me. I nodded, thinking over what Abby told me and then thinking over what Max told me about himself.
He deserved the truth, of course he did. I no longer believed he was the murderer and that made him a whole lot less dangerous but I would still get fired if anyone figured out I told him ...
"Max, what I'm about to say to you has to stay between us okay? If it gets out, I'll probably get fired for this and oh Lord -"
"Hey it's okay, you don't have to tell me you're an agent Princess."
"WHAT?" I shrieked. How the hell did he know? Dark or Agent, which one was he? Oh God what if he was a Dark?
"I know because I'm an agent too." Max pulled an ID from his pocket and sure enough, it was an agent ID just like mine. "My power is Weather and it's sourced by my watch." He nodded to his watch.
Well that explains why he smelled like rain I guess.
"Okay ... But that's not all I wanted to tell you. I want to tell you about me, and what happened a year ago."
"Shannon, you don't have to -"
"But I do." I said, looking him straight in his hazel eyes. Max nodded slowly, and I took a deep breath before beginning, losing myself in the memories.
"I was thirteen when I first met him. We met each other at school and quickly became friends. Abby never really liked him that much and they constantly argued but he was my best friend and so was she so they learned to get along somewhat.
Jack called himself Mason and he became a part of my life I couldn't live without. A year after meeting him, Jack asked me out on Lila's birthday. Lila told me later that she wanted Jack to ask me to be his girlfriend as her birthday present.
We were happily in love, or so I thought. One day, I got a note with a picture of Lila on her birthday, and the person told me I had to come save her, otherwise she would die.
I went to save her, after telling Jack I was sorry for missing our anniversary.
I arrived and I found Jack hurting her. I didn't belive it at first, but then it slowly dawned on me. He betrayed me, or rather he never really liked me in the first place.
He was a Dark, and his mission was to get close to me and kill me. He tried to, he tortured me and Lila for days ... He whipped me and cut me with knives and burned me. I tried to protect Lila as much as I could.
One day, he had been done with torturing Lila and he turned to me. I fought back, but he - he shot Lila. Killed her.
I got so angry, I knocked him unconscious and then I killed him.
I killed a person, Max, I shot him straight in the heart and contacted the agency. What happened broke me, Max.
I became a senior agent for 'bravery' but I couldn't celebrate because the reason I was a senior agent was because my sister was dead and I killed the person who killed her."
I was crying, and Max wrapped his arms around me.
"Thanks for telling me Princess, but I already knew all this." He said softly once I calmed down.
"Wha - how?" I asked.
"Well, I'm an agent remember? I attended the Agency Ball where they told everyone your story. I even talked to you briefly after you gave your speech about Lila."
"You did?" I frowned. "But I don't remember you."
"Well, I was getting ready for a job so I already had the disguise. I had red hair and glasses at the time. I knew it was you from the moment I saw you in that cafe, although I was somewhat surprised. Why do you think I call you princess?" Max explained and I furrowed my brows.
"Why?" I asked.
"Look, you've been through so much in your past and yet look at you now. You're so strong. I call you Princess because well, up till now, you've been everyone's knight in shining armor saving.
I figured that you deserved to be treated like a princess once in a while. Me calling you Princess was sort of my promise to you to treat you like one." He grinned and my heart fluttered.
"But you tease me all the time." I raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, but it's just because even though you roll your eyes and claim that I'm the most annoying person in the world, you still smile afterwards. You seem to momentarily forget about your grief because you're annoyed at me which is a good thing because I know it'll be a while until you move on completely.
The least I can do to treat you like a princess is to make you smile and laugh, relax, forget things even if for a short period of time." Max smiled and I almost started crying again.
Instead, I leaned over and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you." I whispered.
"No problem." Max said against my hair. He pulled back.
"Well now you told me your full story." Max dragged a hand through his hair. "I guess I should tell you mine."
A/N
Gosh I'm terrible at updating but I had some MAJOR writer's block so this didn't turn out very well.
I decided to upload even if it wasn't very good because due to mid term exams I won't be updating for around a month so I figured I would give you this chapter and give y'all enough time to try to guess what Max's full story is.
Thank you so much for reading and tell me what you thought in the comments!
Please don't forget to comment and vote if you liked this chapter, and I'll see y'all next update!!
