Chapter 7: is it goodbye?

Archie POV
My heart sank. Life would never be the same for me again. I lost my bestfriend. They last words she ever said, were to me, "I love you." She said with her last breath. How could I ever move on with my life as she died in my hands. I had to life on with life while she hers was ended so early due to me. I could never begin myself. I lost the girl I loved all because I was stupid. I'll love Betty cooper forever. She'll live on in my memories. "Archie! Archie! Archie WAKE UP!" A voice yells. I open my eyes and discover it was Veronica.
"Where Betty?" I ask.
"She's still in surgery at the moment." She states. I'm glad my dream was over it was horrible. "Archie, the sheriff wants to talk to you but if your not ready you speak another time." Jughead informs me.
"Maybe another a time will be better." I say.
"Maybe you should go take to Mrs Cooper." Veronica says. I nod.
"Mrs Cooper?" I say.
"Oh Archie, what happened to my little girl?" She asks. I tell her all about the blackhood, how he was actually coming for me and instead Betty got shot. "Veronica and Jughead showed up not long after. They helped me get Betty to the hospital." I explain.
"It's scary times isn't it?" She asks.
"Mrs Cooper, it's all my fault. If I never chose and just told Sheriff Keller, the black hood wouldn't have been there. I'm so sorry." I say starting to tear up.
"No archie it's not your fault. The only person to blame is the blackhood." She says bringing me into a hug. "Betty's strong she'll get through this." She says. Trying to reassure herself. We all are.

8:00 pm
The doctor came out and told us that the Betty was in recovery. It would still be a while for her to wake up if she does but I knew I wasn't leaving her side. "Arch, I'm heading home. I'm going to bring some burgers back from Pop's. Do you want to come with me and have a shower?" Dad asks.
"Dad I'm not leaving." I state.
"Archie it's for the best." He says. I finally agree.

10:00 pm
I arrived back at the hospital at 9 pm. My dad brought some burgers from Pop's for him, Mrs Cooper, Mr Cooper, Veronica, Jughead and I. We were all waiting still in the hospital. The only person who hasn't left once was Mrs Cooper. "Archie how are you doing?" Veronica asks.
"Words can't explain." I say. "Not long ago, I was here with my dead, then Miss Grundy was killed, moose and midge was shot, and now Betty's fighting for her life. I feel like the blackhood is someone trying to get to me. I thought it was over, but it's not." I say.
"Oh Archiekins." She says wrapping me in a hug and then Jughead joined.
"Look Archie, your dad survived and don't worry I'm sure your story with Betty is far from over." She claims.
"No matter what happens, we'll get through it together." Jughead adds.

11:00pm
The doctors came out and grabbed Mrs and Mr Cooper. They were in there for atleast half an hour. Everyone was waiting hoping for good news. Then soon, Mr Cooper ran out and left. Everyone assumed the worse. Veronica, Jughead and I were all in a big hug, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Archie she's asking to see you." Mrs Cooper says.
"She's.. she's ok?" I ask.
"Yes Archie, my little girls ok." She replies. I follow Mrs Cooper to Betty's room. "I'll give yous a moment." She says gesturing her hand to the door. "Archie?" Betty says.
"Yeah Betty it's me." I reply. "How are you feeling?" I ask.
"I was just shot Archie, how do you think?" She replies. "I just wanted to know you're ok." She states.
"I'm fine Betty, I've been worried about you." I say.
"Don't worry Archie, I'll always make it though it." She claims.
"I didn't say it back." I say.
"What?" She asks.
"Elizabeth Cooper, I love you." I say. She reaches out for my hand. I hold it firmly. "Who else is here?" She asks?
"Veronica and Jughead." I say.
"Can you bring them in?" She says. I go and collect Juggie and Vee. "Betty!" Veronica says. They hug, just like bestfriends do.
"Jug?" Betty says. He walks over to her and he wraps her in a hug. They hug was very loving. It lasted for what felt like forever. "The core 4 all together again!" Jughead states. We smile, and just cherish the moment.

Betty's POV
Being in Jughead's arms, reminded me of all the old times but I knew all the old times were over. It wouldn't go back to be like that. It never will. Especially not with my feelings for Archie. They are definitely there. Stronger then ever. Jughead and Veronica left and Archie was  going after them. "Arch." I say.
"Yeah Betty?" He asks. I gesture for him to come over to the bed. He sits down besides me.
"Thank you, for waiting all this time." I say.
"You're only here because of you." He states.
"No, don't ever believe that." I say, cupping his face in my hands. "It's the truth Betty." He says, his voice breaking. I pull him in and kiss him.

Archie's POV.
I catch up with Veronica and Jughead. "So Betty and you are certainly bestfriends again." Jughead states.
"It's no like old times Jug." I say.
"I think it was sweet how you stayed there all that time for her." Veronica chips in.
"You think so?" I ask.
"Certainly Archiekins." She smirks. Looking at me just like old times.
"Look I don't need to watch you two have a moment." Jughead jokes. I just shrug it off.
"Jug it's not like that." I say.
"Keep telling yourself that." He states. Which makes me start to think, do I still have feelings for Veronica? Then I think about Betty, and how she got shot because of me. Would she be better off without me? Maybe me forgetting all about my feelings for Betty will be for the best. It's time to say goodbye for them. So I'll never have to see her like that again.
