Ana hurriedly put her laptop and notebooks in her backpack, sighing as she got up from her desk chair. Her feet were hurting in those damn heels. You'd think that after 2 years of wearing heels 300 days a year, a woman would get used to them. Nope, totally invalid point of view.
She put her backpack on her shoulders, after having put the black coat on. Huffing and puffing at that point, she took a moment to breathe. Checking the time on her wrist watch, she realized it is past 9 in the evening. Another sigh escapes her mouth.
It was the end of April and the London weather was not having any of the spring vibes. The thought that she would have to walk for 30 minutes to arrive home was dreading at that moment, but she reminded herself she liked walking. And it was good for her health. Because God knew that with all the time she spent in that building, she needed to make the most of her day and move as much as the schedule would allow.
She was about to leave her office in the East side of the 9th floor, when the lights suddenly went out.
"Not again", she murmured.
The thing was, she knew it was her fault. She knew that someone, she had no idea who it was, closed the lights for the upper floors at 9pm every night at the office. She tried to remember herself during the day to be out of the building at 8.30 at last. Yet, sometimes she'd just get caught up in work and forget completely.
A little angry with the situation, a little with herself, she started searching through her backpack for her phone. Finally finding it, she dialed Jamie's number, the night watchman. It happened to her so many times that she even got his number, since he was always the night shift and she always counted on that wonderful human being to get her out of the building while it was pitch black everywhere at the upper floors and the elevators stopped working.
As he picked up, she made a cross sign with my right hand.
"Yes, ma'am? Stuck again?"
"Yes, yes." She confirmed, laughing nervously.
"I'll open the lights in 2 minutes."
"Thank you so much."
She heard him laughing at the other end before closing the phone. Ana wondered what he must have thought of her. A little crazy perhaps. What could she do, she loved her work?!
After waiting in the dark for another minute, the lights were finally back on. Hurriedly, she went to the elevators at the other side of the building and got down, before something else would happen.

He was just getting out of the underground parking, when he saw the building lighting again. Frowning, he parked in front of the main entrance and got out of the car, curious to see what happened. Jamie, the watchman, closed them when Dimitrio told him to do so.
Confused, Dimitrio mindlessly clicked the small button of the car keys, blocking the doors of the car and entering the building. It was quiet, except for the soft humming of Jamie, as he was scrapping something on a piece of paper.
He rested his hand impatiently on the porter's desk. He instantly looked up, surprised to see his boss there, which caused the man to almost stumble out of his seat.
"S-sir... Is there something wrong?"
Dimitrio opened mouth to ask him what happened, when Dimitrio heard a clique and the sound of the elevator doors opening. Frowning, he turned towards the sound, ignoring Jamie as he was babbling that he "could explain".
A young lady was getting out of the elevator, preoccupied with untangling her headphones. Frowning, he moved ahead. Getting closer, he finally recognized her. She was a strategy consultant in the Economics Department. Dimitrio vividly remembered seeing her a few times up in the boardroom, with the Director of the Department. He couldn't remember her name to save his life though.
