I never thought I would be wearing five pounds of makeup to a lacrosse game, but here I am. Luckily I brought some makeup with me on this trip or I would be screwed.
After I took a shower, Finn looked my neck over again before coming to the conclusion that I would be okay, just some bruising and scratch marks. Too bad hickeys, bruising lines from nails, and scratch marks are hard to conceal. Either way, I somehow managed to fix it.
Finn didn't say anything about me playing today but I could tell by the looks he sent me that he was weary. The whole time we were getting ready to leave it was like he was giving me opportunities to back out. I took none of them.
So here I am standing on a turf field about to play Woodrow high from New Jersey. I had warmed up with Sam as per usual but I hadn't talked to anyone else. I wasn't in the mood. The field was a nice indoor one in a sporting event complex. It was compete with a five different fields and two indoor basketball courts.
Finn and I went to take the coin toss as usual. The two guys from the opposing team wore their high schools orange color. They were both around 6 feet, slightly shorter than Finn and a good 6 inches taller than me. One was a Korean looking boy with a built body and the other was a more lanky looking Italian. His face and hair was similar to Chris's raven head of hair and slightly darker complexion. They both smiled at us, much to my surprise.
Usually I got tight lipped sneers on a good day.
I smiled back when we approached them. Even Finn sent them a small smile. When we stopped across from them, the referee started talking.
"Woodrow Wilson Highschool from Camden, New Jersey meet Groton High school from Groton, Connecticut. Woodrow is in the second seed for their state, Groton is in the first. Captains, you may introduce yourselves."
Finn reached his hand out to the Asian boy across from him first. "Griffin Riley."
"Jasper Park."
Finn shook hands with the boy across from me who introduced himself as Steven Rotulio. When it was my turn I reached for Stevens hand first because he as in front of me. "Sylvia Mason." I gave a firm hand shake to Steven before moving onto Jasper.
"Groton is Heads, Woodrow is Tails." The referee said before flipping the going. The silver glinted under the fluorescent lights as it fell to the green turf field. "Heads. Which side will Groton start on?" The referee asked. It was indoor so it didn't matter as much.
"Right." Sam was already in that goal so he might as well stay there.
"I'm going to go start stick checks." The referee said before disappearing at the side lines. Finn and I were about to leave when Jasper spoke up.
"I just want to say that it's an honor to share the field with two Olympic players." A smile broke out on my face.
"Well, I just want to say that it's an honor to share the field with two captains who aren't complete assholes." I added and Finn laughed a little. "We tend to think with our egos back home. My experience hadn't exactly been pleasant." I made polite conversation with them.
"I'm sorry to hear that. At least you get a break for a week." Steven joked with me.
"I wouldn't be so sure. Watch out for Darien and New Canaan especially. They aren't the type of people you'll want to be spending time with." Finn added.
"Thanks for letting us know. Good luck." Jasper said with a smile before the two of them turned to go to their bench.
When Finn and I started to walk back to ours I sent him a surprised look. "Did that just happen? Did I just meet two male lacrosse captains who didn't have their heads wedged up their asses?" I asked in disbelief and sarcasm. "I didn't know they existed."
