Verity's POV
I walk into our History classroom a few minutes after Missy. I see her talking with Lucas.
She is smiling and seems so full of hope. And as great as that would be, I know how this is gonna end up straight away.
Before I know it, the lesson starts.
Mr. Matthews seems to be teaching about the Sneak attack today, but I don't feel like listening. He wouldn't notice that I'm not paying attention anyway. All of his lessons seem to be focused on Riley's life. It's like the rest of the class except for her and her friends is not even there.
Because today Missy is not in the back of the classroom with me like usual, but is talking with Lucas, she seems to be involved too. Wait, that must be the meaning of this lesson. Missy is considered some kind of a bad guy in this story and Riley with her friends will have to overcome the obstacle presented in the form of Missy. Just great!
I see Riley come out the door, but I don't pay that much attention as I listen to Missy and Lucas' conversation.
I hear Missy say, "You know, you are really nice guy. I can introduce you to my twin sister Verity later. You'll like her. And maybe we could go to the movies together sometimes. I like when it gets dark at the cinema. It's so exciting. Like anything could happen. Do you like movies?"
"Depends on the movie. Depends on who I'm going with."
"I love scary movies. I like when I get scared at them. If you could come, that would be great."
Missy touches his nose slightly. To someone who does not know Missy, this might seem like she is actually flirting with him. But she's not. She's not interested in him. She's just trying so hard for him to like her, to make a good impression on him, so that maybe he might ignore everything others say about her.
She mentioned me so she really does hope the three of us can become good friends, huh? It just makes me sad, because I know this is going to be like every time Missy tried to make friends. She takes it hard each time.
Suddenly, Riley storms up to them. "That's the best you got?"
I hear Maya whisper, "Please, be cool, be cool, be cool."
"I can do that too, like you've never seen." I see Missy looking confused at Riley, while she goes to touch Lucas' nose, but ends up putting her finger in his nose.
Somehow Farkle ends up with his finger in Maya's nose, too and I couldn't be more confused at the direction this day is going. This is just weird.
Time skip- in the evening
Me and Missy are in our shared room. We finally get to talk.
"So, Missy, I saw you today talking with Lucas. And that thing with Riley. She wasn't very happy. She doesn't like us. Well, she probably doesn't even know I exist, but never mind. Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I kinda messed up today, didn't I? But I'd just want to try. I'm just not ready to give up yet. You know I've never been good at giving up."
Every time, the same thing happens. My twin sister tries, she really does, but then she gets scared, because deep down she's afraid of getting close to anyone, and then she panics and pulls off the mean act to push everyone away again.
"But maybe this time it will be different. Maybe the three of us can really be best friends. Maybe then you can stop giving up on your dreams, too."
Next day at lunch
Missy and I walk into the cafeteria and find a table. When Missy spots Lucas, she looks at me, then comes up to him and takes him to our table. "So, this is my twin sister Verity I told you about-"
