Verity's POV

We are in our Art class. Farkle bursts into classroom and we are supposed to be drawing him today or something.

The truth is, I'm not paying attention, and I know for a fact that Missy isn't either.

I always tune out things around me when I'm drawing.

I feel like drawing a swing that is located on the top of a hill and sunset in the background. It means our childhood which we have lost WAY too early.

I don't know why, but I never seem to be able to draw what we're told.

I draw because I tend to get these sudden surges of ispiration and I have to draw them. The problem is, they never correspond with the assignments we get here.

It's pretty clear Missy has a similar problem, because I see her drawing a river flowing in the middle of a desert.

Ms. Kossal starts walking around the classroom, saying, "All right, I know these are works in progress, but let's see where we are."

This time I'm too focused on my drawing to listen to what's going on in the rest of the classroom, even though usually I spend a big part of my time observing other people. I have this thing for understanding words that are not spoken out loud. But art classes are different. They are one of the few times I actually want to focus on what I am doing instead of others.

Before I know it, Ms. Kossal comes to our table to look at our works.

"Verity, Missy, these are wonderful works of art, but no matter how I look at these, I cannot see how they have anything to do with what we're doing today. Though I still have to say that you're quite artists."

"Thanks, Ms. Kossal," we reply simultaneaously.

"Wouldn't the two of you consider painting something for the upcoming art exhibit?" she asks.

"No thanks, I'm not comfortable with other people looking at my paintings," we both speak at the same time.

"But you definitely should consider doing it, sis. You're really good."

"But-"

"Come on, I think it's not a bad idea."

"Ok, let's just say I'll think about it," we both finish with a sigh.

Yeah, I could see that one coming. I mean, me and Missy spend much of our time together and in many ways we think so similarly that seeing the way this moment went, something like that was bound to happen.

I feel a pair of eyes looking at us. I look around and see Lucas staring at us, a bit weirded out. I know, it does seem weird until you get used to it, but that's not what's strange in this picture.

Why would Lucas of all people pay any attention to us?

History classroom

"All right, future history makers, welcome to career day," Mr. Matthews announces. "Now there are a lot of ways to make your mark on the world."

After this Riley's mom, Topanga, walks into the classroom and greets Riley.

"Okay guys, our first guess today is a lawyer, and I likes her. Hey, lawyer lady. How's about we go out sometime? I get off work every day at 3:15. Except Tuesdays. I got playground."

Riley's mom starts speaking, "So, I am an attorney. I got here through a lot of hard work in school. By the time I was your age, I had 350 A's."

There is a knock on the door. From the conversation I have heard between Riley and Maya and by the way they look, I can tell that Riley is hoping to see Maya's mom, while Maya doubts she will show up. And I also know she won't. At least not today, that is. Riley's going to be down about this one and Maya will act like nothing happened.
